Hired Car or Limo Service from Rome (FCO) airport to City Center
Can anyone suggest a hired car or limo service from Rome Airport (FCO) to my rental apartment in central Rome? There will be 4 of us with luggage and it may be more economical to hire a limo than to take the train to central station and cab to apartment. Do you tip the driver on top of the rate? Thanks!

I've used Limo Service Rome (note - no S at the end of service), but many others on this board use Rome Shuttle Limousine which is a bit cheaper. There is a company that is not reliable that has added an S to Limo Service Rome's name to try to hijack business so be sure not to book them.

Taxis from the airport are a set fee and will be 40€ for 4 people (no extra fee for luggage). Be sure to get an official taxi registered in Rome. There are official taxis registered in Fiumicino and these taxis are 60€.

I've used Rome Cabs (Stefano is the owner) on 2 trips to Rome in the last 2 years and was not dissappointed. If you google Rome Cabs the website will come up.
The first time we used them we were picked up in a minivan, although there were only 2 of us and we did not request a minivan. You can probably let Stefano know how many in your party and coordinate the size of vehicle.
I do think they may charge extra for more then 2 passengers.

Interesting website, aaronw. After reading that, if I were new to Rome, I'd never step foot into a taxi cab.
<i><font color=#777777>"Odourless driver with a professional image"</font></i>
Love that line.
<i><font color=#777777>"There are many ways a taxi driver can manipulate the taxi meter to increase the fare, without you being aware of it."</font></i>
Even though taxi drivers aren't allowed to manipulate the fare, who on earth wants to argue with a rip-off taxi driver who probably will pretend he doesn't speak a word of English? No wonder most tourists overpay even though they know they are being ripped off.
<i><font color=#777777>"Often when an unscrupulous driver wants to rip off a passenger, he or she will purposely NOT bring the passenger to the requested destination."</font></i>
Very shady. If you don't know where you are and you're stuck with luggage and someone has to leave you to find your destination (too bad if you're traveling alone), this is not a great way to start your vacation.
I've never had a problem with a reputable car service and who doesn't love those E&S Class cars.
