Hire a driver from Positano to Rome?

HI,

Just had minor surgery and would like to hire a driver form Positano to Rome, but the price we're being quoted seems high- $400!! What do you guys think? Is this going rate?Any suggestions on companies to look in to for this? I'd rather not go through our hotel. Thanks!

Hi Wendy,
With which service have you already checked? I can understand you not wanting to go through your hotel to make these arrangements--the more people involved in the transaction, the more people will need to get paid.

Have you checked with Positano Car Service? Unfortunately, Positano is kind of a "high rent" district within Italy for some things, and I'm sorry to say while it doesn't necessarily seem "reasonable", I wouldn't be surprised if you're unable to find something much under $400.

Get Well Soon,
BC

we hired a car and driver last summer from Rome to Naples, for $400. We checked various places. Finally our tour guide was able to negotiate this rate with a driver he knew at a reduced cost. Given that Positano is farther, it sounds like its in the ball park, although it is still high.

Wendy:

Consider taking the fast train from
Rome to Naples and then hiring a car
to take you to Positano. We went from
Naples to Amalfi for about $90 last week. Positano may be a little more but
shouldn't be much farther. Try Chez Black for dinner. The fish soup is
outstanding.
Kay

We traveled by driver from Positano to Rome and quite frankly I think it is the only way to go! I think I paid around 400, maybe more. My travel agent used a company, I think Autotrav or something. they are out of SEattle. I used them extensively on a few trips in Italy and highly recommend them, always courteous and on time.

Wendy:

The Positano Car Service is your best, if not your only, choice from Positano to Rome. The company has 33 drivers (ask for Joseph) all of whom drive E- class Mercedes. It is a comfortable way to go. Another option involves the Car Service to Naples for 190,000 lire (approx. $85) plus tip, followed by a Eurostar train to Rome for $40 or so per person. To get downtown from the Termini station in Rome will cost another $50+. All told, that's $225 to $250 for two people.

The rates for the Car Service are the same whether you call direct or the hotel calls for you.
