Highlands base
After 2 days in Edinburgh, I will have 2 days in the western highlands before heading to the Inverness area (Forres) for 3 nights. I would like to spend one of those two days on Skye. What would be a good location between Ediburgh and Skye to spend a night (or 2)?
Thanks for any suggestions.

We drove from Edinburgh and spent several nights in Inverness. We used Inverness as a base to travel to Skye and the Ornkey Islands. It wasn't a short drive to either location though - but it was a beautiful one!
Inverness is more of a working class town, but in the city center there is a very nice walk along the river.... We had some very nice meals in the town as well.

Oban or near Ballacullish/Glencoe. What sort of place are you looking for.
http://www.clachaig.com/ in Glencoe, or someplace just outside of Oban would be my choices.

I would suggest Arisaig. It's a beautiful corner of Scotland and you could get the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale (on Skye).
The Arisaig Hotel or The Old Library http://www.oldlibrary.co.uk/ offer accommodation in the town although we spent a very comfortable night at Leven House. http://www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk/levenhouse.html. On a nice day Cambusdarroch (Camusdarach)beach is a great place for a swim. Check out http://www.road-to-the-isles.org.uk/
