Here's Some Photos ~ Barb and Seaurchin's Trip to Rome
#23
Dear Oursin (French for sea urchin)
I pulled a leg muscle doing yard clean-up so that meant I didn't have to cook, my dear did it all; so I sat back and watched PBS repeating Roman Holiday.
As soon as I saw Hepburn and Peck where he pretends his hand is caught in the mouth of that round head sculpture, I thought of you. What is it called?

The stone disk that is the Bocca della Verita represents the face of a river divinity. In ancient times it was a drain cover set in the center of a temple dedicated to Hercules. In the Middle Ages it was moved. Today's superstition is (created by Virgilio Magro) that it had the magic powers to chomp the fingers off those who were telling a lie.

Thanks again for the compliments, I appreciate them.
Nonnafelice you made me laugh, actually we have Barb to thank for those food pictures (and the ones from her window).
Cigalechanta, how do you pronounce oursin? Like orsey?

Great pictures, really wonderful lighting effects. I also like to take close-up pictures of things like doors and architectural features in addition to the whole building. Can't wait for my Sept trip!

Thanks for sharing more beautiful photos, SeaUrchin! Also, I enjoyed your trip report (and Barb's) very much.
I love the photos of the different doors, the arches, the play of light on the buildings from the sunset, and the shadows! You've inspired me to try taking more photos like that on my next trip, rather than my typical "postcard" shots.
