Here we go again: itinerary

We will be in London for the first time from June 10-17. What do you think of this 7 day plan? Problems?

Day 1 (Wed): Arrive Heathrow at 7AM and then river trip to Greenwich. Thames Pub Walk that night
Day 2 (Thurs): British Museum, hop on hop off bus tour, Westminster Abbey (evensong), Theater
Day 3 (Fri): Tower of london; Tate Modern, St Paul's Cathedral (evensong)
Theater
Day 4 (Sat) Old Westminster Walk, Astral Travels to Stonehenge (inner circle tour)
Day 5 (Sun) Bayswater Rd for artists' fair, speakers corner (brief) Victoria and Albert, parks
Day 6 (Mon) National gallery, Trafalgar Sq
St Martins-in-field, South Bank walk, Vinopolis, ceremony of the keys
Day 7 (Tues) Hampton Court and Kew Gardens, London Eye if nice
Day 8 (Wed) British Library (plane leaves at 4:45 PM

Thanks for the help, we are looking to add on a day if this seems too much day by day or even taking a day trip toCanterbury.
Hi
I think day 3 is a killer.
The tower will take at least half a day, plus a major museum, plus a church service plus theatre! too much for me.

Hi
I respectfully suggest that you are overplanned.

Howwever, if you are young and in good health, you will probably recover sometime in late July.

I totally agree with Ira. With all due respect, I think this trip is really over-scheduled, especially on the first few days when you're going to be getting over jetlag. Why don't you see how you feel when you get to London? You don't really need to plan in advance for many of your destinations, except theatre and the Astral Travel tour. And by the way, I would plan the theatre for the latter half of the trip. You may be quite tired the first few nights.

Good luck, and have a wonderful time!

MarleneSusan

I will respectfully disagree with those who say you are overbooked. I did lots and lots of stuff when I was there 2 months ago, and my itinerary, although it contained different things, looked just as full.

I disagree with the regular posters here who always say "you will be jet-lagged, don't plan anything on the first day". My first day in London, we went shopping for hours on Oxford Street, went out to dinner and walked around Leicester Square at night visiting a few pubs, and we were fine. Stayed up until 11pm.

Anyway, we spent about 3 hours in the Tower of London and had a great time, so I think Day 3 is fine, depending on how long you visit Tate Modern. I am glad you are going to Vinopolis! It sounded cheesy to us but we went anyway, and spent 2 hours there and had a blast! We spend 4 hours at Hampton Court, not including travel time. Bayswater on Sunday was fun - also, you will be right near Kensington Park's Italian Gardens, which are really pretty.

I would keep an open mind in case you spend more time in some places than you expect, but don't worry about an overcrowded itinerary. Worse comes to worse, you just skip something, right?

Have fun,
Karen

Skip the first two sentences of Weadles' post and that's essentially what I'd have to say. The only thing that could possibly be wrong with an itinerary even more full than yours (which isn't all that full by my standards) is that you'd be tired and plod on rather than adjusting it to meet your physical state. Nobody but you knows how you'll feel when you arrive. But if you are like me, you'll be ready to go.

Thanks everyone for all your input. I needed to know if I should add an extra day to the Go-today trip arrangements, and with all of the suggestions I have added another day. Could you bear one more look at my new itinerary and critique it? Thanks in advance.

Wed: Arrive 7:00 A.M. at Heathrow. Big bus Tour ,Westminster Walk,
Tea at Orangery

Thurs: Greenwich through London Walks;

Fri: British Museum, British Library; Theater

Sat: Portobello Mkt; Stonehenge Inner Circle Tour thru Astral Travels

Sun: Hampton Court and Globe Theater

Mon: Tower of London, St Pauls, Southbank Walk, Ceremony of the Keys

Tue: City, Westminster Abbey, theater

Wed: Nat'l galerry, Traf. Sq., Thames Pub Walk

thurs: Shop, plane leaves at 4:45

just a minor point
Do you mean you are seeing a performance at the Globe, or you just want to visit?
If just a visit, work it into your Southbank walk day.
I think the shopping for the last day is a great idea, not structured, just fun. I imagine you'll have to leave for the airport before 1pm anyway.

Elaine, this would be for a performance. Thanks for taking a look at the trip plan again. Once I get this basic plan done with room for serendipity, then it's time to think about where to eat, what plays to see, what gardens to visit, etc, etc, etc.

Glad you changed the river trip to Greenwich from the first day. On a few trips to Europe, I thought the boat trip would be a nice relaxing way to settle in on the first morning. I found that it was too relaxing. By sitting there on the boat, I fell asleep. I missed most of the scenery on the boat trip & it was hard to get going again after getting off the boat. For me, I have found out that going out & walking around invigorated me more & kept me going all day, with maybe sitting down on a bench in a park for a rest, & watching the people go by.
With your new itinerary it looks like you have given yourself some time to be able to relax, or if you so feel like it, fill that time with something you come accross & want to do at the spur of the moment.

you have gotten a TON of suggestions on both of your threads. Your first thread was the active one until elaine's response topped this one today. Click on your name and you will retrieve both. between the two threads you have a LOT of info to build on. . . .
