PLMN,
We all hope that DH's tests show nothing drastic and that he will be OK very soon. Backs can such, let me see, how to clean this up, such #(&%@^*).
We are enjoying your report so much and appreciate your sharing with us. Write more when you can.

OK, how does one "undo" a sent message?!?!. I have been keeping an eye on this thread and one other and got them confused. Obviously, PLMN does NOT have a husband with a bad back.
But I am still waiting with baited breath for more from you, PLMN!
PLMN, this report is wonderful. We all love your "cliff hangers".

PLMN, I have a SIL with back problems right now so I know how both you and he are feeling. My prayers are with both of you that he will be alright. While you take care of your DH don't forget to take good care of yourself also.

I am a daily reader of Fodor's but until today, I have skipped "My Travels with Mom & Dad." For the past 2 hrs., I have been totally engrossed in your posts, PLMN. You are not only a wonderful daughter but also a very gifted writer. Please keep up your posts. I hope your husband will be better soon.

Katie2, welcome to the club!!! I do not think dear PLMN knows what a terrific writer she is. She is amazing.
So many of us can hardly wait for the "next installment". She truly makes on feel as though they were right there with her. Think PLMN's "secret" is that she bares her soul. So many of us don't. So many can relate to her journey, one way or another, because we too have been annoyed, frustrated, tearful etc., with family members

well, there you go, family member just made me "jump" and I posted without meaning to.
Where was I? Oh yes, family members. We love them, care about them, would pretty much do anything for them, but at times they drive us nuts! #-o
IMHO what makes PLMN report so very special to so many of us is not the hotel info, the restaurant info etc., it is the interplay amoung family members. Love/frustration/care/get away and have a cig and a quiet cry.
We, or most of us, can truly relate.
Than PLMN comes home and her DH has a serious back problem. So now she and he are on edge no doubt waiting for the results of the MRI.
Ah life, perhaps what PLMN has truly shared with us is that there is no "perfect day", no "perfect family", no "perfect vacation".
There is life, the good and the bad. The happy hours, the sad hours, the stressful hours, and sometimes perhaps the boring hours.
So we relate to PLMN, to her story, her life, because one way or another it is all of our stories.

Message: Hi, Ira, et al.
As I wait semi-patiently with bated breath (I sit corrected) while Phoebe takes good care of DH, I am entertained by Millie-Louis (a large, beautiful, solid black domestic short hair)as she lurks in front of the mousehole having eaten cheese. Actually, it is a hole drilled by a previous owner in an inconspicuous corner to run a cable. But I don't have the heart to tell her. I said she is beautiful, I made no comment on her intelligence! Hope springs eternal in her world.

Howdy everyone. Will be leaving in a few hours for the MRI. We are starting to worry a little more about the severity of the situation. The pain has endured for FAR longer than ever before. I will be sure to keep you posted.
In the meantime, her is another Venice installment, this time directly from my notes:
I had a fairly peacful nights sleep. My mother had given me some of her wax ear plugs to drown out my father's snoring. (I inherited the awful snoring trait from my dad who used to literally shake the walls of our homes with his nasal jackhammering.
My poor suffering DH has had to live with my nasal inheritance, it drives him insane from time to time. Wanting to give him some peace at night I had the matter looked into and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. After a few years struggling with a CPAP machine I finally had surgery which lessened the severity of the condition, but did not cure it. Since I can't tolerate the CPAP machine I don't travel with it and I had been worried that my mother would also go insane from the symphonic cacophny provided by both myself and my father. Mom usually uses and travels with a sound masking machine, but she didn't bring it on this trip, just the wax ear plugs. We were very pleased with how well they worked. I had also been worried that other guests would be bothered by the horrid sounds, but no one said anything to us which was a relief.)
After we woke up and dressed, we went to the courtyard for breakfast. The weather was crystal and perfect, and Debbie served up a simple yet lovely and breakfast consisting of pastry, an unusual fruit juice, coffee and hot chocolate for my dad.
My parents wanted to thank Debbie for putting up with our wallet hysteria the day before and insisted she join us for dinner that night. We were pleased when she accepted our invitation. (I was also secretly pleased at the prospect that Debbie would be the one who would choose where we would dine which meant that in all probability it would be a DELICIOUS dinner, you know a place the "locals" go )
We lingered over our repast and made our plans for the day. It was decided that mother would attend the Venice Biennale by herself and my father and I would go off on our own. Then we would meet Debbie back at the B&B to go to dinner.
There were two things dad wanted to do. One was to locate the friend of a friend who owns a cameo shop at the Piazza San Marco, and the other was to visit the Jewish Ghetto. Of course we still had to find our way to the American Express office as well.
After saying goodbye to my mom, dad and I set off on our adventure...

You refer to snoring as "nasal jackhammering." I can barely type, I am laughing so hard!! My mother has this problem and it's so bad that when we used to travel together we had to get single rooms. I found it impossible to sleep on the same floor of the hotel as Mom, much less in the same room with her. Even with heavy-duty earplugs, it made no difference. That terrible sound pierced right through them and I would be up all night.
I hope your DH will be better soon. Mine has back problems and I know how awful that is.
Now getting back to a question I asked a few days ago. I am sure many of us are hoping for a sequel to this story. So where are you taking Mom and Dad next year? I know you have a lot to worry about with DH being injured, but I hope we you will be travelling with your parents again soon. I look forward to your next installment.
