I hope someone can help. We have been invited by my parents to spend a few days with them in Abano ( a resort near Venice). however, we have no idea where to go from there. We will have about 10 more days and would possibly like to see Florence and Tuscany? although we are open to any suggestions and we would need to end our trip in a city easy to fly out of. I should note that my husband has been to Rome so that is probably one city we will not visit.

Will you visit Venice from Abamo? You might want to spend a couple of nights there. You could easily do Florence, then rent a car for Tuscany. Fly out of Milan.

It will help if we know more what's important to you: art, cuisine, city bustle or tranquil countryside?

Pisa has an international airport and it is right next door to Firenze, and Milano is not far from Firenze via train. So you could very easily visit Firenze and Tuscany.

If by "seeing Tuscany" you mean the small towns and landscape, then it is very good to rent a car. I would suggest you consider a week-long stay at a villa or "agriturismo" or resort outside of Firenze or Siena in order to be able to tour the countryside. But first, spend 3 days in Firenze itself, without a car. It is worth that much time.

Enjoy your stay. The slower you go, the more you will enjoy it.

I would suggest you go out to Trieste from Abano-Trieste is a FANTASTIC city, with sights, that beautiful sea, the Adriatic, two castles, a very friendly vibe-you can take lovely inexpensive day boat trips to the picturesque fishing villages (and former realms of the Republic of Venice) Muggia and the (very German) beach resort of Grado.

Close by through a pleasant busride, there's Aquileia-the ancient Roman settlement-a UNESCO heritage site, with absolutely astounding frescos-you should see my pictures!

I love Trieste-more people need to check this place out-it reminds me at once of southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area, with its hills running down to the sea, and its friendly, laid back vibe.

After Trieste, you should go to Florence-the jewel of jewels-for no other reason than to visit the most beautiful "Duomo" in the world-the Renaissance masterpiece of Santa Maria del Fiore.

Yu should have at least 3 nights in Venice.

After that, I agree with visiting Trieste for a few nights and then on to Florence.

You can visit Siena and/or Bologna from there, and fly out of Florence FLR or Pisa PSA.

Hard to advise without knowing the season, but there is much to like about Trentino, Bassan del Grappa and the entire Lake Garda region - - at least 7 or 8 months out of the year.
