Help With Stay in Zurich

Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone is keeping well.

We as a family 2 adults + toddler (3 years) , will be in Switzerland from 30th April to 7th May with Zurich as our base. I just wanted some suggestions please in regards to planning out an itiniary.
We ideally want to do the lakes mountains etc but would not want to travel too far as max travel time to and back intend to keep it under 3 hours. Do not want to travel everyday either.

I wondered if anybody has the experience travelling with toddler Zurich as their base and would be kind enough to share their experience and itiniary.

Thanks in advance.

Is there a specific reason why you have chosen Zürich? There are far better areas that reveal the magic of the Switzerland's alps, scenery and culture.

I am flying into Basel as that was the only place I could find flight availability as I used airline voucher for ticket and taking a train to Zurich from there. Is Basel a good base in that case

I do not understand why you are choosing cities when Switzerland is full of mountain villages nestled next to gorgeous mountains and which are easily accessible by train.

I'm confused as well. Switzerland is jam-packed with beautiful alpine villages and getting around by public transport is a breeze, so why base in a big (and IMO expensive and rather soulless) city?

Some suggestions from Zurich - Engelberg, just over an hour away by train, where you can take the cable car up to Titlis:

A day trip trip to Lucerne (which is also a busy city and not even in my top ten, but I'm not a city person - others seem to love it)

More ideas here:

Like chocolate? Perhaps visit a chocolate factory:

https://aeschbach-chocolatier.ch/ (in Root, near Lucerne).

The Swiss experts would know... but I know I wouldn't spend that particular week in a mountain town in the U.S. It would be too muddy for me. And rainy? But this was a mild winter in Switzerland, so perhaps it wouldn't be as bad as I imagine.

Fro short day trips to Lakes and mountains, Berne would be the better base 1 1/2 hrs from Basel airport, like Zurich).
