Help with specific information on Portugal. Going NEXT WEEK!!
I'm looking for specific information mainly on public transportation.
1. Should I get a train or bus from Porto airport to my hotel in city centre, the Hotel Tryp Porto Centro. I believe there is a new metro link from the airport to the city centre. Does anyone know which stop I should get off at that is nearest to my hotel. Or is bus better? I'm arriving on Sunday morning.
2. Distance from my hotel to Porto Campanha train station? I'm going to get train to Lisbon the following morning.
3. I'm staying at the Hotel Mundial, Rua Dom Duarte, No.4. Lisbon for 3 nights. Which train station is nearest this hotel? I was going to get the AP train.
4. On Thursday, I'm going to Obidos for 2 nights staying at Casa de Campo Sao Rafael. It's on Estrada Nacional 8 which I believe is approx. 1.5 km from the town centre.
Should I travel from Lisbon to Obidos by train or is bus better.
5. Then on Saturday I travel to Viana do Castelo for 2 nights. I think there may not be any direct link between these two places. What is the best way to travel between these two? I'm staying at Hotel Do Parque Viana do Castelo.
6. On Monday I travel back to Porto staying at the same hotel - Hotel Tryp Porto Centro for my last 2 nights. Again, is bus or train better and is there a direct connection.
I'm particularly worried about getting from Obidos to Viana do Castelo.
Is there a 'train pass' that I should use instead of buying individual tickets. I will probably tour some of the Douro/Minho region by train also.
Any other thoughts on my itinerary would be gratefully appreciated. Unfortunately, all the hotels have been booked now so I can't change them.
Thanks in advance, Martina

Hi, me again. It looks like Rossio station is the nearest to our hotel in Lisbon. There doesn't seem to be a train from Porto directly to this station. Is Santa Apolonia the nearest? If so, is there a metro link between the two stations.

Hi Martina, can you post this on the big Lisbon and Portugal thread...
Things to do in and around Lisbon Part III (Inc Port)

There are many people there who I'm sure will be able to answer your questions.

Martina, go to www dot cp dot pt (substitute . for the dot, I type it that way to prevent screwing up the board).
On that website click on 'urban lines - Lisbon' - and then download the map they provide showing you a map of how the rail intersects with the metro stations. The same website will also tell you at what stations the AP train stops.
Also check www dot maporama dot pt.
Pore over a map for a while and get familiar with your surroundings. A map is worth a thousand words.
(Note the map at cp dot pt shows urban commuter rail stations as well as the main stations for inter-city lines. We took the AP to Entrecampos - I believe the alternative station was Oriente. I'm guessing you can't go wrong with Entrecampos if your hotel is in the downtown core near Rossio.)

Hi Martina,
I don't have answer to all you your questions, but here are some of them:
The metro stations near hotel Mundial are Martim Moniz and Rossio (2 different lines)
The nearest station from Porto is Santa Apolónia, but if drop out at Gare do Oriente you will hav the subway, which does not happen with Santa Apolónia.
From Lisbon to óbidos buses are quicker
From óbido to Vianoa do Castelo, I don't know, but I think you would have to catch a bus

Hello Martina:
Click on this link.
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...2&tid=34816717
then click on "Post a reply to this message"
Add your questions and click "Post my reply."
I started the three threads a while ago and now there are so many Portugal experts involved I can (sometimes) take a back seat. Hence I didn't answer your questions here because there are people with more experience of what you are looking for than I.
See you there,
Matt
