Hello Everyone,
Is there a preference for location to stay in Edinburgh? Old Town, New Town, we want to walk to sights and don't mind using public transit but want to make the most of walking....we see so many parts of the city that you miss on public transit. We will be there in late April and probably looking into Airbnb's because we have 4 adults. B and B's are good also. Budget $300-325 a night.
Thank you.

Both Old Town and New Town are great places to stay. But you have to understand Edinburgh. Old town is at the Top of a high cliff . . . and New Town is at the bottom. So if you want to walk everywhere you will have some quite steep treks. Some say - and not totally in jest - that every walk in Edinburgh is up hill
The buses are great. So find a place that looks good to you and book it (me personally - I prefer being up in Old Town because that is where many of the most important sites are . . . Plus it is gorgeous) then walk where you can but also take buses and cabs and the tram.

Edinburgh is surprisingly compact, and given the time of year you're visiting, you're not going to have any difficulty finding something nice within your budget. On the New v. Old Town front, I'd personally prefer the heart of neither as things can be very catch-as-catch can on specific locations - trafficky streets, lots of noise when the pubs let out, etc. For me - personally - I'd probably look either south of the Old Town in the University - Meadows - Bruntsfield area (residential but still very convenient, lots of good pubs and cafes, but also daily life being lived) - for example https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/20841694 - OR I'd look at the north and northwestern part of the New Town like here - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/27188472 (on incredible Ainsley Place, one the premier crescents in the New Town) - or closer to the Stockbridge area on the north end of the New Town. These areas would be a short bus ride (or with 4 of you, a very cheap cab ride) to the heart of the Old Town, from which everything is downhill. ;-)
