Honestly, I couldn't thank everyone more for the great tips and advice you left after less than only 24 hours! I can hardly believe it, since this is really the first I've participated in a forum like this. I only hope I can be as helpful to others someday. So - - - we're going to pack lighter, leave at least the big bags at LGW, get on the Express to Victoria, stay at the Thistle (or thereabouts), and get on a tour bus to see the tourist sights. One final question - - shouldn't even ask - - but - - will it be obvious where to leave the bags at LGW? Thanks VERY much!

LoisinSC, English is commonly spoken at LGW. Just ask at the info desk, airline ticket counter, etc. for left luggage.

just for a translation - "left luggage" is Brit speak for luggage storage. Not lockers, but a staffed facility where you leave your luggage. So you can ask - or look on the gatwick website - for "left luggage"

I just noticed - the rate is now up to £6 per bag. From the website:

Dear LoisInSC,

I am also taking the Grand Princess cruise out of Southampton 8/9/07 and am wondering if you went on your cruise as yet? I haven't booked the air yet and am thinking of taking a bus from Heathrow to Southampton and staying in Saouthampton overnight (I've been to London several times and don't want to use the extra vacation time.) Would appreciate any thought that you might have.
