Help with itinerary

We are a family of 5-youngest is 17 so basically all adults traveling. We will be meeting my daughters once we arrive who have to travel from Valencia. Our plan is to see Italy arriving on June 18 and leaving on June 28. We would like to see Rome and Venice and maybe Florence-other suggestions appreciated as we are flexible. We would probably start and end in Rome. With 5 people can we do 2 hotel rooms per city. From I have read we would probably travel by train to these other cities. Thoughts, suggestions. We have to fly out of Miami so figured that Rome was the best to start and end in but also flexible with that.

It always helps to state clearly in your thread title what the topic really is, like "Help with Italy Itinerary", not just "Help with itinerary".

More people will open your question if they know what the topic is.

In Italy, many hotels have "family rooms" but they are usually limited to 4 people. You'll probably have to rent 2 rooms in each location.

With only 10 days, 3 locations is a bit much and I think you should concentrate on 2 - Rome and Venice, or Rome and Florence. It all depends on what you all want to see. Pleasing 5 people is tougher than pleasing 2 people.

And since you apparently want to concentrate on big cities, then train travel is the only way to go.

kjh can you fly into Rome and out of Venice? Do you have your tickets yet?

If you two cities you can rent apartments for five nights in each city - We took our daughters to Florence and Rome - four nights and five nights each (we also went to Switzerland and France) - it was wonderful - we enjoyed the apartments in both cities.

The plus is the room, being able to spread out and eat a few meals in. The negative is not having someone to ask questions at the desk. But we managed well with good planning.

I highly recommend Context Tours for Rome. We had a great experience with them.

On our first trip to Italy, we flew into Rome (4 days), trained to Florence (4 days) and ended by train in Venice (2 days). We flew out of Venice. We used a travel agent for flight and hotels but went on our own once we arrived. We used the time frame from tours we read about.

The thing we loved the most was that we went from the noisiest to the most quiet (Venice having no cars). But, we wished we'd had more days in Venice.

You can get a day trip to Pompeii, Pisa, Siena or Assissi from Rome or Florence.

If you like large cities, the above might work fine for you. If you prefer the mysterious, add days to Venice. I personally would take a day from Florence. By all means, read the guides and see what calls out and report back to us all! Oh, also check internet to book ahead for things when poss.

Yes, definite look into open jaws tickets, into one city, out of another. That way you save valuable vacation time not backtracking.

I prefer flying into Venice and out of Rome. That gives you more time in Venice, because flights out of there leave very early in order to connect with flights to the US. Venice is a good place to get over jetlag. And introduce you to Italy without the complication of cars.

Ten days isn't a long time, so 3 stops at most, I would think. And the obvious stops are Rome, Florence, and Venice. You can make day-trip excursions from your base if you get bored. For instance, you can take a train from Florence to Pisa or a bus to Siena.

If you're not so interested in Renaissance art and architecture, you could skip Florence and spend a couple days in the Cinque Terre, a series of 5 small towns shoehorned onto the hilly Ligurian coast and connected by boat, train, and a walking path. But Venice to the CT to Rome are longish train rides.

DH and I flew open jaw to Italy last summer, into Rome, home from Venice. Our flight home from Venice was not early at all. We left around 1:00 PM for a flight to Atlanta and made our connection to our home from Atlanta. We had 5 days in Rome,2 days in Florence and 3 days in Venice. I had been to Venice before but it is my very favorite Europeon city and I never have enough time there. The 2 days in Florence was enough time there for me.

Fly into Rome and out of Venice. I'd include Rome, Florence (optional), and Venice and travel between them by train. This is an easy trip to arrange and covers alot without being too hectic imo.

Yes you should be able to find hotels rooms to get one double & one triple.

My hotel favorite in Venice is www.lacalcina.com. It's lovely. They also have some apartments you might look into.
