Help with itinerary
OK, this is my first time planning a trip like this and I've been scanning messages for two days and while everyone is full of loads of great information.......it's hard to keep it all straight in my mind.
Here's what I'm thinking, looking for feedback. I have nothing set in place so far so I'm just thinking about 14 days or so.
Fly to London, spend 3 days. On the 4th day, take the train to Paris, mostly because that seems pretty easy, not to expensive (the travel part) and another great city to see with minimal travel time. Spend 3 days in Paris. I think that will be all the city life I can handle (my husband could spend a month in either place but my 2 girls and I aren't big on cities.
Then, here's the big question......I really like the sound of the Amalfi Coast for the next stop. Take the overnight train or fly? Traveling on a train sounds really cool, I almost would hate to sleep through it but I guess we wouldn't sleep all the time. Anyway, how close to the Amalfi area can we get on a train, or plane.....and is this ridulously expensive to basically travel the length of Europe? Then, what city would be best to look for a return flight that would be close?
If I had to delete one stop it would probably be Paris but the kids would love to see both cities if even for a short stay.
Long question I know, hope it's not in bad form to go on so......such a big decision though. Thanks for all advice.

I have ben traveling to Europe with my kids for the last 6 years. The hardest part is deciding what to see and how much time to spend in each ciy. What I have learned is to accept the fact that you can't see it all in 14 days.
How old are your kids? Do you really want to spend your time on trains?
I absolutely say yes, it is too much to go from Paris to Amalfi in two weeks. Depending on the age of your two girls, they will find enough to love about London and Paris to be satisfied. In fact, my daughter, who on her first visit hated Paris, fell head over heels in love with it on her second visit. My son, on the other hand, loved London and never liked Paris -- period. I went to Paris expecting to hate it and I was so wrong!
By the way - 3 days on London, IMO, is enough. Three days in Paris is WAY TOO SHORT

The Amalfi Coast is a little difficult to get to. You'd have to fly to Naples, then take a boat or a train (or maybe a driver with car) to get to the Amalfi Coast.
An alternative is the Italian Riviera, just around the corner from the French Riviera. You could fly into Genoa and train south to the Cinque Terre or Santa Margherita Ligure. There are some other good seaside towns in the vicinity.
By the way, I feel exactly the opposite of hazardnc, regarding Paris and London.

Hi C,
London and Paris, with daytrips, makes a great visit.
You can break up your city experience by visiting small towns outside both London and Paris.
I think that the Amalfi coast should be left for another visit, when you go to Italy.
