Help with Itinerary

My husband and I are planning a trip to Eastern Europe in early July. I think we are going to take the Uniworld River Danube Cruise that begins in Budapest, and goes to Vienna, Melk, Passau, Regensburg, Nuremberg, and ends up in Prague. It's seven days, but I thought we would add on several days at the beginning in Budapest, and at the end in Prague to explore those cities on our own. We also have read here that Krakow is well worth visiting--but since we will end up in Prague, my question is, how would be the best way to get to Krakow. We wouldn't mind renting a car, but is it worth driving there and back, in order to drop the car off back in Prague? Or is it just easier to take a train, and fly back to the States from Krakow? Any thoughts would be welcome. We are pretty experienced travellers, and like to meet the local people, but don't speak German. Also, I know that there are issues about dropping the car off in a different country....

Hi Cathart,

Sorry, I can't help with your specific question, but I can give you a couple of tips which might increase your chances of getting a helpful response.

Firstly, I would recommend that you re-post your question under a more specific title. Posting under such a general title means that it won't catch people's attention & it's possible that those who do have useful information won't even open your post. A title like "Advice On Getting From Krakow To Prague" might do the trick.

Also, did you know that you have replies to your other postings? If you click on your name (in blue at the top of this post) you will find a list of all of your postings along with the various replies.

Hope this helps,

Jim

Topping... once again... with the continuing suspicion that cathart has still never seen any of the replies to earlier posts.

Budapest and Prague are both wonderful. In Budapest we stayed at the Victoria in Buda. We had a lovely balcony and a 180 + view over the Danube, the highlight being the Parliament building. In Prague we love U Krale Karla right at the entrance to the Castle area. This, however, is on the very steep Nerudova Street if that's an issue for you. We took trains. Krakow is indeed a wonderful city - the huge square is a delight. The train trip is pleasant, however, there is very little time to change trains in Katowice. ( We made it.)The up side is that , if you travel at the right time, there are others in the next few hours. We got our tickets, for a nominal charge from Herman Wissenberg - [email protected]. He's in Florida, but tickets come from Germany. He was very helpful and probably saved us more than his fee. It was also very convenient having the tickets ahead of time. First class is worth it.
