Thank God I'm not the only one terrified of this posting...
Halter tops and short shorts?
First class under $100?
Terrorists?
Money in your underwear?
Big Gulp Drinks?
MILDRED-FOR THE SAFETY OF THE REST OF THE WORLD STAY AT THE TRAILER PARK!
(or at least let someone lock you up in a bunker somewhere)
For some reason I get the feeling that Alf is your brother AND husband.
And Damita-I second your opinion on the Canadian Flag issue. If you Americans are so proud of their country, show it. Don't hide behind someone else's flag when it's convenient. That's being a coward.

To our Canadian friends who have gotten all upset by this old posting, please, please note that it was a JOKE.
>Canadians have actually entered most of the major wars (Korea, Vietnam, WWI and II, before the US...
Since WWI and WWII were European wars, that's not surprising.
US troops arrived in Korea on or about July 2, Canadian forces on December 18.
Canadian forces were not involved in Vietnam.

To Jules: Joke or no joke, it's nice to get your facts straight.
And the joke is somewhat out of date: Great Britain went into Iraq (for which it might have paid a heavy price on 7.7.); Canada did not ask, "Can we join?" In fact, the Canadian refusal to go into Iraq has not endeared Canada to the present administration in the U.S.

Eloise -- you're right, particularly if you're doing journalism, which I was not...I am well aware of recent history.
And yes, since I was just kidding around, I knew the facts would probably get in the way of the story, for that I certainly apologize, though probably not all that vehemently.
It was in fact, the French who ran to Vietnam long before us, and had the good graces to see it for the quagmire it was and leave before we did.
No offense intended to the Canadians...I do think though that the basis for using the flag in travel came in the 1970s as anti-American sentiment over Vietnam was quite high, and in their attempt to avoid being given a hard time, some Americans traveled with a Canadian flag on their baggage in order to avoid conflict. I believe that the Vietnam War was indeed a blight on our record, and certainly and unfortunately not the last.

Hello again, Jules: Thank you for your gracious reply. An apology is more than sufficient; it need not be "vehement" (smiley; I can never do the wretched things right).
And Americans wearing Canadian flags did, I think, start during the war in Vietnam. From posts on this board, I get the pretty distinct feeling that some Americans may be doing it again -- or still.
