Help with Colosseum Underground tour needed

I’m headed to Rome in August with my husband and nieces (18 and 21). I know August will be very hot, but this is the only time that worked with the college schedules.

I would like to purchase tickets to the Colosseum Underground tour for August 18th. From reading other posts, I see that I can do this on Pierreci home page/English http://www.ticketclic.it/Gb/HTML/musei/colosseo.cfm. I’ve got a couple questions:

1. In order to get the Underground tour, do I have to select the “collect on site” option? It does not look like “print at home” gives the option of the Underground tour.
2. I believe these tickets are good for 2 days, but I am not clear if the first day of use needs to be the day of the scheduled Underground tour as it states “The tickets are valid for 2 consecutive days, from the 1st day on your choice within the season.” So, if I choose August 18th as the date for the tour in English, can I use the tickets on August 17th to tour the Forum?
3. Can I pick up the tickets on August 15th or 16th when I am in the general area?
4. Is the Underground the only part that is “guided”? Will we be on our own for the rest of the Colosseum and Forum?

We will be in Florence on August 19th, so I am hoping we can use the tickets on the 17th and 18th, although it is possible we can do the Colosseum, Underground and Forum all on the same day.

My husband and I have been to Rome several times but this will be the first trip abroad for the girls. We are excited to show them this fabulous city!

Thanks for your help!

You are essentially buying a general admission ticket and the underground tour. The general admission ticket is good for two days, but I believe you can only access each area once (one entry to Colosseum, one to Forum and one to Palantine). You should be fine visiting the Forum on the 17th and the Colosseum on the 18th.

There is a pick up area, but you will have to inform someone that is what you are wanting to do.

There is a guided tour of the Colosseum you can book which is about 45 minutes long (5€), but perhaps that is included when you book the underground tour. You can read a bit about it here.
http://www.pierreci.it/home-page/en/.../colosseo.aspx

The Colosseum tour info is only on the Italian page.

For the Forum, I think there are only audio guides.

I thought you had to call to book the underground tour.

I did read something on Omni about tickets being valid three days. Perhaps that means from time of pick up?

If you plan to visit other sites such as Borghese (12€), it might be beneficial to buy the Roma Pass instead (30€ - 3 days). You would still need to book the Underground (8€).

The underground tour does include a tour of the Colosseum as you go all the way under as well as up to the top level. It is very interesting and I highly recommend it.
I printed out my email showing I purchased the tickets, which gets you into a nice and short separate line. Then you go to the front and they will give you a sticker with your time on the tour. Make sure you keep that sticker on you the whole time. People try to sneak in on the tour and they will check your sticker.

You don't need to call to book the underground tour. Just pick online tickets, not print at home tickets, on the website.

Have you tried www.tickitaly.com? I booked the underground tour with them, the dungeons and third tier tour. I printed my tickets at home, took it to the colosseum on the day and got a guided tour. The underground is not open to everyone and you have to go in with a guide, they also take you to the top of the colosseum.

You have to do the tour on the date of the booking and then use can use the same ticket to access the Forum and Palatine Hill the next day. I did it all in one day and it was a bit much.

Wish I had seen that before Zee21. I do understand the queue for ticket pickup isn't long though, so hopefully ok.

You topped a thread from a year ago and booking has changed since then (Pierreci is no longer used, it's coopculture). You still have to call if you intend to use a Roma Pass for entrance. AFAIK, there is no way to book the underground online when using the pass.
