Help with Car Rental

Would you consider a Alfa Romeo 147 - 4 door a midsize car. Thrify is calling this a mid-size car!
Which car is bigger an Alfa Romeo 147 or a Ford Fiesta? Anybody rented any of these two cars was there enough space for 4 people and 4 carry ons luggages?
I'm also being told that a Ford Fiesta is similar to a Toyota Yaris.

Any opinons? Thanks tc

All UK versions:

Alfa 147 5-door:

Length: 4,223mm
Width: 1,729mm
Height: 1,442mm
Wheelbase: 2,546mm

Ford Fiesta 5-door:

Length: 3,924mm
Width: 1,685mm
Height: 1,432mm
Wheelbase: 2,486mm

Toyota Yaris 5-door:

Length: 3,750mm
Width: 1,695mm
Hegith: 1,520mm
Wheelbase: 2,460mm

So, it's clear that the Alfa is indeed significantly larger than the Fiesta and the Yaris, and the Ford and the Toyota are indeed similar-sized.

Europeans have different definition about what a "midsize car" is, and it's a lot smaller than here.

Since these are hatchbacks, they are able to carry quite a bit of stuff. Whether it'll hold four 21" rollaboads, I don't know. And if you can, they'll be visible from the outside.

BTW, if you use Autoeurope's definition, a Fiesta should be an "economy car", and the Alfa Romeo should be a "compact", as it's similar in size to the Ford Focus, VW Golf, etc.

A mid-size car should be bigger. One of the models is the Renault Scenic Megane, which I drove in the UK last year. That can definitely fit 4 persons with carry-on.

I would consider both of these a bit marginal for 4 adults plus (larger) carry-on type luggage. We had a Ford Focus with 4 plus luggage recently, and it was a tight squeeze for the bags (a large duffle, 2 roll-aboards, and a backpack). We rented from Hertz, and the class was supposedly "Renault Meganne or similar" in France and "Ford Mondeo or similar" in UK, I thought they were stretching a bit to claim the Focus as equivalent, but they worked reasonably for us.

Hi tc,

If you go to you will get pix of the cars and info on how many people and suitcases they can carry.

Thanks everyone, I going with the Alfa Romeo 147 makes the most pratical sense! The Renault Scenic Megane more than doubles in price.
