Help with bus transportation from Sevilla to Granada
I am finishing up my planning for our trip to Spain this coming March and I need some help with the bus transportation from Sevilla to Granada. We will be arriving in Madrid, then taking the train to Sevilla and from there, heading onto Granada. I had planned on us taking the train from Sevilla to Granada, but there are very few trains and the schedule is not very good for us. So, now it will be a bus. I have read good things about the buses and I hear that they are frequent and convenient, but I can't seem to access specific information on them. Can someone provide me with some help? I have been trying to access information on the movelia.es website as wel as the continental-auto.es website and I keep having difficulties when I try to put in the necessary information (arrival and departure cities). I am looking for the mid week schedule, prices and information on how and where to get tickets. Thanks! Susan

Estación de Autobuses "Prado de San Sebastián" is where you would pick up the bus to Granada. The bus company ALSINA +34 954 41 88 11 covers the route to Granada. (www.alsinagraells.es)
It has an English language page where you can book on-line.

Robert2533 - Thank you very much. I found the website and the schedules. But which Sevilla? On the website there are two (Sevilla and Sevilla2)? And should I purchase these tickets in advance? Or can I wait until we arrive in Spain (about 4 days before we will make the trip from Sevilla to Granada. thanks, Susan

I did the trip by bus late 2005. Buses leave very regularly, and are the way to travel in Spain. The journey takes about two and a half hours. You buy a ticket for a particular seat on a particular bus, and you can do so just before the bus leaves. It is all very well organized. The Estacion de Autobus in most Spanish cities is very large, and well-served by the local buses.

I'm glad that this info has been posted as next time I go to Sevilla I'll want to take the bus to Granada.
Ditto to what Adeben says. In 2004 and 2005 I traveled several times by bus in Spain and was very satisfied with it. The buses are modern and comfortable. For me it's also a big plus that the luggage goes on the "belly" of the bus so I don't have to hassle with bringing them up into the train a wonder if I'll find space to put them.

We will be in Madrid for three nights, then arriving in Sevilla and staying two nights before leaving for Granada. So, is it still okay to buy the tickets in Sevilla? Or is it possible to get them in Madrid? If so, where would I get them? I guess I could also buy them on line.
I checked the schedule and the buses are not quite as frequent as posters are mentioning. The bus that is direct to Granada (taking about 2.5 hours)does not run before noon and we would like to get an early start rather then spending good 'tourist' time on a bus. So it looks like we will want to take an earlier bus that will take about 3.5 hours. And there is only one that fits that bill. So, with that in mind, I think it might make sense to try and get the tickets in advance. I am just not sure if we need to get them on line or if we can wait until we arrive in Madrid.

Susan,
What day of the week are you checking? I tried checking dates on March but it told me it was too early to book for those dates. I picked a day at random in February (a Friday) and there is a bus that leaves at 9AM and arrives at 11:45 AM.
My suggestion is that if you want to make sure you can take a specific bus you make your reservations online, since this company offers that . I did that for a couple of my segments( with other bus companies) since I wanted to make sure I was able to make a specific time. And I was glad I did since these buses were full.

Thank you cruiseluv, I am trying for March 6th. I did try online but the English version on line was not working and when I tried the Spanish I did not get anywhere - it could be that they were telling me that it was too early to book for March. My Spanish is not very good. I need to wait for my daughter and have her help me! But I do think that I will want to book on line just to be sure. (and yes, I am looking at the 9-11:45 bus). by the way, did you travel by train as well? We are and I was wondering if I needed to book my Madrid to Sevilla train leg in advance or if I can get that when I arrive in Madrid? Susan

Hi Susan,
I just tried your date and is telling me is not available yet in the system.
I traveled from Sevilla to Madrid in the Ave. I procrastinated and bought the ticket the day before. We got some crummy seats, had to seat apart. Part of the problem was that we booked a late afternoon train and a lot of business people were on that train. I recommend that if possible you go in an off-peak hour. How many days are you in Madrid before traveling to Sevilla?

Cruiseluv,
Thanks for the help with the on line bus tickets. I will watch the site and get those tickets in advance (with my daughter's help!).
I messed up with the date though. We are arriving in Madrid on March 3rd, a Friday morning and would like to take a morning train to Sevilla on Monday, March 6th and then from Sevilla to Granada on March 8th. So three nights in Madrid, then on to Sevilla.
Thank you for all of your advice/help. Susan

As far as the Ave train, I think if you buy them the day after you get to Madrid you should be Ok. My parents did that( bought them 2 days in advance) last year and had no problem.
But if prior to leaving to Spain you have a good idea what train you want to take maybe it's a good idea to buy them onlne. One less thing to waste time on or worry about in Madrid.
Good luck and have a great trip!

I have similar itinery as Susan and I have planned to stay at Sevilla for 2 days then head to Carmona for 1 day as I want to stay at the Parador. After Carmona, we will be going to Granada. Since I won't be travelling by car, so bus is the only option. I'm just wondering if there's any bus operating from Carmona to Granada so I don't need to go back to Sevilla?

you can buy the tickets for ave at the renfe stand in airport, and also ask them about any other train schedules you might be interested in.
buying your granada bus tickets when you arrive in sevilla should be fine if you dont feel comfortble online.but of course that takes up valuable tourist time!
remember, in spain they put the DAY, then month, then year..can be confusing with dates for early march as you could inadvertently get yourself a ticket for the wrong month .
