help with bus timetable giorni feriali/festivi please!

I have a timetable for buses from Modena to Maranello for a visit to the Ferrari Museum. They list giorni feriali and giorni festivi. I know that this refers to weekdays and holidays - but do they mean Saturday and Sunday as the weekend are giorni festivi, or just Sundays, or just special holidays??? I think Saturday is a working day in Italy, and the kids go to school too, right?

There is a big difference in the number of departures, and we are going on a Saturday, so I want to be sure I'm not standing at a bus station for an hour or two longer than necessary!

Thanks for any help you can give me on this one and hope that all made sense!!!

In case there is no "prefestivi" indication, Saturday is often considered "festivo" day too.

Is this the timetable you're looking at?

"Sabato" seems to be included in the "feriale" section.

Festivi on this timetable should not include saturdays: on saturdays the schools are open, but I can't see any bus from Maranello to Modena leaving at the right time to bring students at school at 8-8,30.

"Feriali" are Mondays to Saturdays (except public holidays); "festivi" are Sundays and public holidays.

GeofHamer:

As I have said before, saturdays are sometimes considered festivi and sometimes are set in a cathegory by themselves (prefestivi). Feriali days can be Monday to Saturday, but in some cases they are Monday to Friday.

If the timetable has two headings, "feriali" and "festivi", the former will be Mondays to Saturdays (excluding public holidays) and the latter will be Sundays and holidays.

On some timetables, I've seen "scol" which I assumed stood for "scolastica" or something like that, to wit, school days. I knew that this meant that during the school holiday periods, this route wouldn't run, but I had also assumed Mon-Fri. Now I hear schools are open in Italy on Saturdays?

Saturday is a school day in Italy, but I think they finish earlier than on Mondays to Fridays, so bus schedules on Saturday afternoons may be different from other schoolday afternoons. It pays to check the small print on timetables carefully: I once went wrong in Sicily when I assumed a public holiday's timetable would be like Sunday's, but the timetable meant what it said (it said "domenica" rather than "festivi" so the holiday service was a normal weekday schedule, not a Sunday service).

Just a caution if you plan on taking a bus during the school commute time, crammed with lively loud kids and their monster backpacks, it can be quite an experience! : )

GeofHamer:

Schools in Italy (at lest for what concers highscools, since kids in Primary scool will not take buses) end at the same hour every day (usually betwen 13,00 and 14,00). And not always if there are just two headings on the tables it means that saturdays are not considered festivi. I have lost enough buses because I thought that saturdays were considered feriali and they were _not_ for not knowing this!!! As a matter of facts bus timetables in Italy are a completely anarchy! The only thing I have ever seen that is less organized and standardized is bus timetables in Greece!
