Help with Anniversary Trip for Parents- 1 week

Hello- Planning a trip for 65 year old parents in July. They are flying in/out of Zurich and definitely want to see Munich and Vienna. Any suggestions? I was also thinking Innsbruck and Salsburg. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

What a nice thing to do!

With 7 days I would stick to 2 cities...you lose 1/2 a day at least everytime you move.

Why are they flying in and out of Zurich if they want to see Munich and Vienna? If they are already tied to Zurich are they staying there for any of the 7 days?

Hi red,

>They are flying in/out of Zurich and definitely want to see Munich and Vienna.<

That does not compute.......... Half of their time will be spent in transit.

With only one week, I suggest

Fly RT Zurich and visit Switzerland.

Fly RT Munich and visit Salzburg and Fuessen.

Fly into Munich and out of Vienna.

I'm going to LA for a week and I'd like to see Portland, Oregon, San Diego, Sacramento too.

Your schedule is very much like the above.

Are their flights already booked? It appears so - and if so, that's too bad.

Not only are they flying into the wrong city if they want to see Munich and Vienna, they have to return to Zurich to fly home -- which wastes a full day of their already very limited time.

Is there a reason they are flying in/out of Zurich? Award tickets or something?

Yes, award tickets and that's all they could do. Would anyone have any suggestions for switzerland? The one item they really want to do is to do a Rhine river tour...

I hope with this schedule that it is a day cruise.
You are putting way too much in this trip.
If they are on the ground for only 1 week.
Pick 2 locations only.

Hi Red,

There are day tours along the Rhine from Schaffhausen to Stein-am-Rhein.

and http://www.stein-am-rhein.ch/xml_1/I...ation/f107.cfm

Zurich is worth a few days, as are Luzern, and the Bernese Oberland. They could also visit, Winterthur, St Gallen and Konstanz from Zurich

I've been for four daysa, Jetsetj (Munich last September, so you can guess what that was for I'm sure). It's all about working with the time frames you have, and your dedication to the cause of traveling

Jetsetj,
I live in the U.S. Yes, I have traveled to Europe for just 7 days. If I don't want to go indigent paying for the health care, I need to keep my job to retain my health insurance. Taking a vacation longer than two weeks is like submitting a resignation. How sad.

OK, I haven't flown in/out of Zurich and the only part of Switzerland I am familiar with is Basel, so these are just a couple of thoughts.

If your parents are retired, is there any way they could squeeze in a few more days? That would help. 10 to 12 days would be nice. They could have more leisure and see more.

Since they must arrive & depart from Zurich, could they continue on and fly right away to one of the other places they would like to visit, spend three or four days, and fly back to Zurich for two or three days? If they have only the seven days, that might help.

Does the seven days include travel time, or do they actually have seven days on the ground?
