First post!Transfer between Heathrow airport and Gatwick airport prebooked taxi

Hello,
On 28th of June on 17:35 I arrive on Heathrow and I have a connecting flight in Gatwick on 20:30. Time is so limited,so I decided to prebook a taxi. Cost is 100 to 120 pounds, pretty much but this price will be shared between 3 people and it will give us piece of mind.
My question is which taxi company is the most reliable one?Have you got anything in mind? Is there something that I should take into consideration? You know, I havent travelled so much that;s why I need your advice
Thank you,
Sotiris from the sunny island of Kos

Sorry to scare you - but a 5:30 p.m. on a weekday three hours is probably not enough time to make your connection by taxdi or any other means.

Where are you flying from and into which terminal? Assuming long haul international, landing at 1735, you probably can't be to the taxi rank until about 1815 -1830 at the earliest. You have to wait for the plane to park at a gate, walk a looooong way to arrivals, wait for luggage and go through immigration and thenwalkk out to the taxis.

Then you have about an 80-90 minute drive to LGW (could be less but you are travelling at a very busy time on the M25)

So you're arriving at LGW about 2000 - most likely not enough time for check in/security

Oh - I see you are on Kos - are you flying in from Athens on your way somewhere else, or are you flying back home.

Thank you for answering.
Well we fly from Paris Charles de Gaulle with BA arrive in Heathrow at 17:35.
Probably we will take our small suitacases on the plane so as not to spend time later. However, I have heard that BA is very strict with the on board luggage. Is that true?

janisj is right, I would be very concerned about making a transfer at that time of day. The motorway connecting these airports is the M25, nicknamed The World's Largest Car Park. (I learned that on another thread) Last year I had the misfortune to get caught in the afternoon rush on M25 and there's no way that transfer could have been done, at least not on that particualar day. Is it possible to rebook?

Unfortunately I have to join the others in suggesting you try to re-book on an earlier flight from Paris to LHR - perhaps the 15:05 flight?

In addition to the traffic congestion, there is also the strong possibility (probability actually) that your flight will be late landing at LHR. The air traffic delays around Heathrow in summer can be quite long.

Yes, BA is strict on cabin baggage, but it is really your only option if you can't change the flight. Be sure you explain your problem when you check in at CDG.

But I would try very hard to change your flight, or even consider Eurostar from Paris - Ashford, then a car service to LGW - around £80. The 16:07 Eurostar arrives at Ashford at 17:07, which would give you enough time to travel the 100km to LGW by 18:30; or the 15:04 (-16:04) would allow even more time.

BA is usually very strict about carry on - 6 kilos is all you get. I seriously doubt you can carry on.

Your itinerary just is too difficult. I'd guess you have a 10% - 20% chance of making it - and that is optimistic.

Take an earlier flight - or as Gardyloo suggests, consider the Eurostar. There are cheaper day return fares on Eurostar and you could just discard the return ticket

A car won't be any quicker than public transport. There is a shuttle bus that runs between the 2 airports and that takes around 2.5 hours. You won't make those particular flights but you might as well save some money and get the bus!

True the bus is just as fast as a cab - but you would have to wait for the next bus, where as a car service would be waiting and ready to go.

That being said - it STILL isn't enough time.

Even if the M25 is running smoothly, you still won't have enough time. This may sound daft, but could you change your flight bookings so as to arrive and leave from the same one? I am pretty certain you can fly from CDG to Gatwick. worth exploring, I would have thought.

You actually can do it on British Air but you have to change in Manchester!

I don't want to get into an argument, but since when did eurostar connect with transatlantic flights at Heathrow or Gatwick? no wonder so many people fly into schipol.

Eurostar made it uneconomic to have London - Paris flights from Gatwick AND Heathrow AND Stansted.
