Does anybody know if 1 hour to transfer in London to a plane going to Amsterdam is enough time.

What airport and which terminals? At Gatwick, the two terminals are quite a distance away from each other.

That's tight. It depends partly on how many flights happen to land at the same time you do, so how backed up the immigration desk line will be. Secondly, do you know if you need to transfer terminals between flights? Normally international lands at term 4 and then you fly onward from 1 or 2, for instance.

My reply was assuming Heathrow.

Not knowing any details - 1 hour is no time at all at either LHR or LGW.

I would not want to do it. It's possible but it might be a real challenge. We had a very tight connection one trip coming in from CDG to LHR and going on to LAX. Luckily there were enough people on our flight going on to Los Angeles that they held the flight till we all boarded, but let me tell you that was one stressful panic filled rush through Term 4. We just about made it to our seats when the doors closed and the plane pulled away from the jetway. If there had not been about 20 people making this mad dash with us I doubt if the flight would have been held.

P.S. Our luggage made it too

No. Even if you were flying BA for both legs and flying into and out of the same terminal (e.g. most North American BA flights arrive at LHR T4, and some BA flights to Amsterdam fly out of LHR T4), an hour still might not be enough. I do the T4-T4 connection a lot.

You have to walk from your gate to the Flight Connections area (5-12 minutes), clear security again (a shorter line, for transfers only, air-side but it can still take up to 40 minutes at busy times), and then walk to your next gate (probably at least 10 minutes. Don't forget that the scheduled arrival time isn't actually, or usually, the time you manage to get off the plane. The plane has to touch down, taxi to a free gate (there are often traffic jams on the runway), connect to the jetway, and then all of the First and Club World passengers get to get off the plane first. And your luggage has to make the connection, too. Even if you make the connection, your luggage might not.

Are you booking <whereever> to Amsterdam via "London" or are they two separate sets of flights <whereever> to "London" and "London" to Amsterdam.

In the 1st case it's the airlines problem if you don't make the conne3ction, in the 2nd it's yours.

Also are you flying into & out of the same airport? BA flies to Amsterdam from both Gatwick & Heathrow
