Help w/Details of Seville Itinerary Please

My husband and I are going to Andalucia in November. We arrive in Madrid on a Saturday morning at 8:30. I am figuring on catching somethine like a 11-11:30 train from Madrid to Seville . (Assuming about 2 hours in customs/baggage etc??? plus taxi from the airport to the train station.)

I need some help fitting everything into the time we have in Seville! (after Seville, we have one day in Rhonda, 2 half days in Granada, and then back to Madrid). It's a tight schedule but this is the time we have--any time in Spain is better than no time! Times are approximate--please let me know if I am way off--too much or too litte. I am not a "we must be here at x time" person, but if I don't have a general schedule, we putter too much and miss the good stuff. We are in our mid 40s and in good shape so walking a lot is fine. I will be jet lagged Sat and Sunday.

Saturday: I will be really jet lagged so I need to choose sites that don't take too long to see and no art museums at this point.
1. Lunch on train (ugh, but better to eat while on the train doing not much else)
2. Arrive Seville around 1-1:30, check in with property manager (we are staying in an apartment in Barrio Santa Cruz)
3. Tour Bullring 3-4:30
4. Basilica Macarena 5-6
Tapas tour through BArrio Santa Cruz

Sunday
1.Alcazar 9:30-11
2. Art Museum 11:30-1:30
3. Lunch at Beceritta 1:30-3:00
4. Cathedral 3:15-4:45
5. Hospital de los Venerables 5-6
6. Flamenco dinner and show (it looks like many of the restaurants are closed and dinner customers at the flamenco places get preferred seating so I figured this would be ok. Or are they the equivalent of a "rubber chicken dinner" and we would better getting some bread, cheese, and jamon at a store on Saturday)

Monday
I really want to see Casada Pilatos. I think it would also be fun to take the train to Jerez for a sherry tour. Could we do what I have below or would it just be too much?
1. Take the train (1 hour from Seville to Jerez) and do one or 2 tours from 10-12
2. Lunch lunch in Jerez from 12-2
3. Train back
4. Casada Pilatos from 4-6.
5. Nap
6. Dinner at Egana-Oriza

Tuesday
Train to Cordoba, tour, lunch and then train back.
Dinner at Enrique Becerra

Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

You might want to consider visiting the Torre del Oro. We had dinner in a restaurant right on the river near the tower - sorry don;t remember the name - but the food was excellent - and the whole scene very romantic.

We also loved the Palacio de la Condesa de Lebrija - which was truly fascinating and had some wonderful Roman remains. Much better IMHO thana bull ring,

But the bull ring has the museum etc. I don't want to see any bull fights but it is such a significant part of the culture, that I wanted to see the museum and the chapel. Has anybody toured the bullring and thought it worth skipping? The Toree del Oro is a naval museum--right? We are not interested in that but the building itself looks interesting.

I need to chime in and say I think you are cutting yourself short to only allow 1.5 hours at Alcazar. YOu can easily spend over a half of a day here. The architecture is mesmorizing and the opulence and beauty of the garden will make you want to linger and savor!
I would grab a quick bite for lunch in the cafeteria here and spend that extra time enjoying this world Heritage site.
The Moorish architecture is amazing.
Get in line early - it opens at 9:30am

Also, please know the Cathedral is very large - third largest in the World.. If I recall correclty - nevertheless it is big! Just a work of caution.

Enjoy Seville!

We were here 2 years ago - and there were some great shoe stores too! If you can squeeze a few minutes in!
All of my favorite shoes are from Spain!

I know, no shopping time--I am really re thinking the Jerez tour based on that alone The Alcazar and Art Museum are closed Monday so we have to get to those on Sunday.

We are used to quick lunches but on this trip we may well not be able to make it to the late dinners common in Spain. Somebody recommended that we visit the nice restaurants at lunch time, then eat tapas in place of dinner....Any thoughts on this plan??

StantonHyde:

Tight schedule for Sevilla. I would suggest you forego the bull ring and instead tour the ring in smaller and less crowded Ronda, which also has a little museum therein. You can walk right into the ring and play Matador/Toreador. Ole"!

My scaned pre-digital pics of Sevilla during its famed Holy Week will give you looks at some of the places you list, like Casa Pilatos. The covering bougainvilla is gorgeous.

We took in a spirited, fair-priced flamenco show at Los Gallos in the Barrio....some of the two or three aficionados herein have panned the hell out of it as too amateurish. Who knew? We enjoyed it. Shame on us. OOOH!

Take in the Plaza de Espana...if you want to pop for a coche de caballo ride, do it and it'll take you there.

We stayed at Las Casas de la Juderia at the time and loved it. Go in and take a look, it's in the Barrio and quite inviting.

Anne Sherrod is so right..the Cathedral is enormous..or humungous as the kids say. Don't hesitate to walk the incline ramps up to the top of the Giralda Tower. Not too difficult, easy rises. The Alcazar next door is outstanding and worth as much of your tight schedule as you can afford.

Watching the day and night long activities and processions during Holy Week was illuminating, picturesque and exciting for us, too. The pix tell it all.

Enjoy your visit!

We were in Spain this past spring- we just walked past the Sevilla bullring and saved our bullring experience (museum, etc.) for Ronda, which has a great bullring and museum. I might suggest you do the same, as imo there is so much to see in Sevilla and not as much in Ronda.
I'd strongly suggest skipping a flamenco dinner show and just go to the Casa de la memoria which is in the Barrio and has shows every night that last 1 hour. Truly authentic amd totally fabulous, and well priced, too (somewhere around 20 euros as I recall)- we ended up going 2 nights in a row, as they have different performers and shows every night. Plus it's right in the Barrio, very convenient if that's where you are staying (as did we).
I'd also give more time to the Alcazar and less to the Museo des Bellas Artes. The former is truly special and the latter less so.I might also suggest a walking tour on the first or 2nd day especially if you're jetlagged. We took a tour with Conception recommended by Rick Steves (sorry, can't recall the name of the tour co.- Sevilla Walking Tours?), which was actually led by her associate Alfonso, and he was terrific. We took a general walking tour of Sevilla plus his tour of the Alcazar- highly recommended (and we don't usually do organized tours).
We loved Sevilla- I know whatever you end up doing you'll enjoy your stay.

Azahar has got excellent suggestions for tapas bars in Sevilla. Many of the best and most interesting places are outside the Santa Cruz area. I recommend the atmospheric Arenal area (close to the bullring), the San Loernzo district in what the locals call centre and the vibrant Triana area across the river Guadalquivir. You should visit El Rinconcillo, the oldets excisting in all of Spain, from 1670. Atmosphere and excellent local spesialities. Suggestions by district. http://azahar-sevilla.com/sevilletapas/

When it comes to flamenco, there are several high class tablaos in town that also serves dinner (El Gallo, Arenal etc.). I would nevertheless recommend intimate Casa de la Memória. Also popular with tourists, but this is definitely the real deal, some of the finest artists perform here on a regular basis. Great talent that at least should give you a hint of how wonderful this art form can be. No dinner, just a one hour performance, and only 15€. Tickets are sold on the same day, and they sell out fast when huge names such as Pastorá Galván (voted best female flamenco dancer for 2010 by Spanish critics), Adela Campallo, Rafael Campallo, La Choni etc are on. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...Andalusia.html

Great idea about the bull ring in Ronda--will skip Seville for Ronda. Thanks for the tips on flamenco. Think I will just abandon the sherry tour and relax through Seville

Ronda might be boring compared to Seville. The bullring substitution in Ronda is a good idea though. I really liked the bullring tour in Sevilla and if the one in Ronda is just as good it will give you more time to relax and get lost in Seville which is what it is all about there. I also second the idea of skipping the sherry tour in Jerez. You can get really good sherry in Sevilla. I also wouldn't waste a meal at a Tablao when there is such great food in other places. I also like the Museo de Bellas artes, it is small and quick. Hospital was boring for me but I was quite young.
