Help....There must be a STYLISH, comfortable Women's walking Shoe.

I just read the other posts on this topic. There must be a stylish shoe with at least one inch heel. I wear and walk in high heels, at least 9 hours a day. I realize that I am not walking on cobblestone so I need your help.

Do you know of an ankle boot with a stacked one inch heel that would work for me in Paris, and Milan, and Spain? Or, Mary Jane....Oh, I don't care, I just need a minimum of a one inch heel

If the consensus is that this is rediculous, I will settle for my aersoles flats.

Aerosoles makes other styles of shoes than flats. Maybe they would have something you like?

are you looking for a shoe or a boot?

It's much easier to find really cute, comfortable, even waterproof boots than cute, comfy shoes.

Hi luckie, you say your wear highheels at least 9 hours a day. Until I retired I wore highheels about 14 hours a day and consequently in Italy I wore highheels and never had a problem. Now they were wellmade leather highheels (pumps and sandals) with a good arch support (all Italian brands) and I never had a problem. So don't assume that you cannot wear heels in Europe, European women do. Just my experiences and two cents worth. Since you are use to wearing heels I would take one pair on your trip at least for dinner and evenings.

I am at a lost regarding stylish walking shoes, lol. With pants I find Ferragamo loafers work the best for me but we all have different feet and consequently need different brands and types of shoes. I would say if you are going to be in Europe in hot weather boots would be uncomfortable I would think although I love boots in cold and coolish weather.

Hi luckie16, I have bad knees so can't wear high heels for long periods. As an alternative for work I have multiple pairs of Munro shoes and boots (see www.munroshoes.com) and love them all. They make stacked heels of varying heights that are very comfortable for walking. One is a side-zip boot with about a 1.5" heel that I can wear for long periods of time. (see, for example, the Lilian www.munroshoes.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=89).

I think boots may be too warm at this time of year but I agree much easier to attractive boots than shoes.

I just got a great pair of Munro low heels. They feel like I could run a mile in them (if I could actually run a mile!). Try this site for other great comfy shoes:

Hi Luckie16:
I had a similar comment on the other post re the need for at least the 1 in heel.

If you are looking for a pant shoe, The lethaer Dansko Raphael is a 2.5 in stacked wood "look" heel and made of the shock absorbing stuff. I paid $145.00 for them and after a couple of uses felt perfect. Come in Euro sizes & for walking on vacation they are great because they are very closed, like a short boot. So not really a summery shoes but good to wesr on the plane & for city walking as they look good.

welig12--I have to warn you...I doubt you will walk away with buying just one pair of Munro's I have over a dozen pair and they are always the first brand I look at when I am shoe shopping.

hausfrau--I have those boots and love them!

Thanks everyone..... fishee, I am looking for either an ankle boot with a heel, or a shoe, it does not matter. It sounds like Munro's is something I should look into.

I am leaving my home in about 30 minutes to purchase shoes. I am in California so my choices of stores are Nordstroms, Macy's, DSW, Neiman's etc. Do you know whether any of your suggestions are sold there? I will look at Aerosoles heels as well. I will post tonight or tomorrow to update you on my purchase.

I will keep my computer on in case some of you have an idea which stores I should try. I believe that we have a Clark store in Santa Monica, I will try there as well.

LoveItaly, I am going to take your suggestion as well.

Thanks again everyone.

Nordstrom sells almost all the brands mentioned (plus some) and they'll take them back if you're not happy anytime, even if you've worn them!

Another suggestin I have would be to get a pair there. DD got boots when she was living in Italy that are nicer than any I've seen here. My feet swell on planes, so I can't do that, but if you don't have that problem, that might be a solution for you.

Hi, Luckie,

I am with you. I wanted something stylish ,too. I found some pretty good looking ones by Born on their website. There's a MUCH better variety on the website than at any of the stores I visited.I saw some Mary Janes that looked pretty chic.

Prada makes some great walking shoes, too. Heels with rubber soles...

I am now going to look into Munro.

You think Manolo reads this board??

I went to DSW yesterday and found a pretty decent selection of Merrill's, Clark's and Born's. I fell in love with a pair of a very stylish Born sandal with with a wedge heel. I also purchased a pair of Clark shoes with a one inch heel. This way, if it rains I will have a shoe with full coverage over my feet. Last, I purchased a pair of Clark's flip flops. I walked around in the store with all three. They were extremely comfortable. They are so cute, I will get year around use out of them here in the states.

If you wreally want walking shoes and you are fgoing to be traipsing about on old cobbled lanes, forget wedge heels... that's a great way to break an ankle.
Danskos are awful for walking in Europe. There are stylish walking shoes out there without much of a heel, far easier to doing any real walking in, and you will save yourself the experience of a European hospital waiting room!
