Help - Sweden and Norway Itinerary Review

I promise this will be my last posting regarding this trip. I have taken all of your comments into consideration and have come up with the following itinerary. I am traveling to Norway the third week in April and have found out some hotels may be closed, specifically the Stalheim. I am of Swedish and Norwegian Ancestry and I am visiting for the art, museums, and architecture. Not as much for the scenery. I was on an Alaskan Cruise last fall. (I can change my plane ticket to fly into Norway and out of Stockholm.)

So here is the itinerary I have come up with:

Monday: Arrive Olso - Tour Oslo

Tuesday: Tour Oslo

Wednesday: Depart for Norway in a Nutshell. I believe the Stalheim Hotel is closed for the season. So I think we will stay in Bergen. Or should we stay in Voss or Aurland?

Thursday: Spend day in Bergen. Take overnight train to Oslo.

Friday: Depart for Stockholm

Saturday: Stockholm

Sunday: Stockholm

Monday: Fly Home

What do you all think of this itinerary?

THANK YOU SO MUCH! TUSSEN TAKK!

Looks basically OK but such a short time, especially in Bergen. Yes, I'd just go ahead with the long but scenic day Nutshell going to Bergen. You likely have in mind already what to see? Looks like some backtracking Oslo-Stockholm. Good luck!

You will find a day in Bergen (unless it's pouring rain!) inadequate to see this lovely little city. Make sure you go to see the new archaeological museum and then walk the waterfront to the art galleries.

You might check into flights from Bergen to Stockholm rather than the long train trip from Bergen to Stockholm that will use up a full day of your trip. We are flying SAS to Stockholm from the US and are able to use their Visit Europe Pass to get inexpensive one way tickets but I have also seen $100 US one-way fares from Bergen to Copenhagen. I have not explored Bergen to Stockholm but you might be able to find a flight that is cheaper than the train and have that much more time in the cities.

I took a look at the one way prices from Bergen to Stockholm and found fares as low as $135 US depending on the dates of travel.

Hi detraveler, I'm a planning a similar trip.

Where are you seeing the low fares frmo Bergen to Stockholm (or out of Bergen in general)?

Thanks.

Interesting -- available on Expedia.

Glad I read this forum! (I always use Orbitz, and I think Orbitz doesn't allow a departure destination outside of the US.)

When I tried SAS the fares were over $500.

By the way, SAS seems to be the only airline that has connections between Bergen and outside of Norway (I couldn't find anything else via whichbudget.com -- it's all Oslo).

I think that it flies to Trondheim or Oslo from Bergen (within Scandinavia) -- I just checked it again, but I could have missed something.

Pretty much you need to use SAS, I think.

But you can fly to London from Bergen using Norwegian.

You buy two tickets: Bergen-Oslo, and then Oslo- Stockholm.

Actually you've a point -- SAS doesn't fly directly from Bergen to Stockholm either, I think.

But it flies from Bergen to Copenhagen (directly) and that was what I checked on Expedia.

So Norwegian may work just as well (I didn't check the connections -- but there're fewer flights with this airline).

The train between Oslo and Stockholm was a big disappointment. Very long ride , approx 5+ hrs and very mediocre landscape. It's not worth to do , in my opinion.

Several years ago we flew nonstop from Bergen to Stockholm. Nice quick flight. We bought roundtrip tickets because they were much cheaper.
