I post and read both here (home) on a full size PC and at work on a lap top. Why can I not empty the Folder of Temporary Internet Files on the laptop. It's threatening to take over my life, but nothing seems to work. Mostly, of course, it's Fodors pages, and it's HUGE. <BR> <BR>Can anyone who understand this stuff tell me what to do? please?

Of course, we're not going to tell you how to empty that folder. We snoop in there all the time to know what pages you've read, and what threads you've added to. We know all your aliases and all those other websites you've been to also. <BR>

click on "Tools" and then "Internet options" and then "delete files in the temp internet folders section.

What in blue blazes is a computer anorak? I know what an eskimo anorak is, but you've got me puzzled on this one. <BR> <BR>Don't bother to delete the files, Sheila, it's a recirculating cache. You can nicely control the cache from your browser. <BR> <BR>Presuming you're using Internet Explorer go to Tools|Internet Options. Under the General tab you'll find a Temporary Internet files section with a Settings button. Click that. Just below the middle of the Settings dialogue box you'll find a place to set the Amountof disk space to use. <BR> <BR>In Netscape you go to Edit|Preferences, and click on the plus sign next to Advanced under the Category heading, then Cache. You can set disk and memory caches there. <BR> <BR>You want a good sized cache so that you don't have to go back on the Internet everytime you want to revisit a page. Much faster to pull a static page up from your disk than otherwise. Most newer computers with 6-8 gigabytes of hard drive space should probably be using at least 100 MB of space. On smaller or more crowded harddrive you might want to use quite a bit less space. <BR> <BR>twenj

Here's a real anorak's trick:- <BR> <BR>Insert something like the following in AUTOEXEC.BAT <BR> <BR>erase C:\yfile.dat <BR>echo Y &gt; C:\yfile.dat <BR>erase C:\windows\cookies\*.* &lt; C:\yfile.dat <BR>erase C:\windows"Temporary Internet Files"\*.* &lt; C:\yfile.dat <BR> <BR>Etc. etc. <BR> <BR>Using 'Output Redirection' ( &gt; ) which a lot of people know about & 'Input Redirection' ( which a lot don't ) this will create a small file with a 'Y' in it which will 'Answer' the 'All files will be deleted Y/N !' question automatically. <BR> <BR>I zap my cookies, cache etc. this way every time my laptop boots up. <BR> <BR>Be careful as this could potentially cause havoc if misused ! <BR> <BR>PS In the States I once watched an episode of Star Trek: Voyager where the 'villain' was called 'Annorax'.
