help please with luxury hotel in barcelona

I am trying to find a hotel in barcelona for 3 nights for my parents who are going on a cruise from there in October. I am having a difficult time since I know nothing of Barcelona. They love luxury, they are willing to spend the $$$ for 3 nights and would like the hotel to have spa facitlities. Hotel Arts would be perfect except for the location in October. That time of year I think the city would be better than the beach.

The Majestic seems really nice but I am concerned about some of the bad reviews. Some friends of theirs recommended the hilton and the Princess Sofia, but the hilton seems a little too businesslike and the Sofia also has mixed reviews.

Ideally they don't want to be out of Barcelona but neither do they want to be in a too commercial or busy area.
Any first hand information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I would personally disregard the "bad" reviews and go with the Hotel Majestic. It, and Casa Fuster, are two of the best 5-star GL properties in the city and the Majestic is my personal favorite. Have them book the Privilege Room with a terrace overlooking the avenue.

They love luxury? The Ritz-Carlton isn't exactly out in the sticks and are these the type of folks who are going to use the Metro vs. taking taxis?

Hi; This is only a four star, but look at the 'Superior room, with terrace overlooking the Cathederal. Great location for walking. www.hotelcolon.es/ We were there in February and had warm weather during the day. I think October will be OK. Dick

The Arts is too far out for most people, unless all you want is a spa hotel. It's also a high-rise hotel, 482 rooms. And no, the Hotel Colon is far from being a luxury property.

have you looked at the Derby group of hotels? they have some 5* properties and are in generally central locations.

Thank you all so much for your replies. All the advice was really good, and after much thought I think I will reserve the privilege room at the Majestic. It has the spa, seems to be in a great location (hopefully not too noisy on a high floor) Thanks again to all who helped me decide.

hi nancy,

have you had a look at their website? they are doing what seem like some really great rates for October if you are prepared to book 3 nights and pay in advance.

regards, ann

Hi! I recommend you Casa Fuster. Is the best luxury hotel in Barcelona. Besides is gorgeous and staff treats you great! Hope your parents enjoy!

It looks like you already have decided; but I have good expericiences with the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya. 4 star, but better than some 5 star IMHO. Location is next to the Sants Station. Not a real tourist area, but with the metro (which stops right in front of the hotel) your are only 10 minutes away from the sights.

We had a junior-suite at the 20th floor, great views of the Montjuic. Nice spa.
