Kinderdijk is far more authentic and awesome than Zaanse Schanse which is also neat and much much easier to access by public transporation. the mills at Zaanse Schans have been relocated there I believe from all over the Zuider Zee to accompany gthe Zuider Zeee Museum there but Kinderdijk is the real thing.
You can take a boat there from Rotterdam much of the way then bus or bike or you can get there by bike from Gouda (and car of course)https://www.google.com/search?q=kind...=1600&bih=1075

Zaanse Schans -
Again Zaanse Schans is so so easy to get to by train - train from Amsterdam or Haarlem to nearby Koog Zaandijk station and it is about a 15-minute walk to the area.
