Help-need Paris suggestions fast!!

Help!!! I have an opportunity to go to Paris--but I have to book by midnight tonight to get the best rate. Its beeen years since I have been to Paris, and I need help with which area to book the hotel in. Can someonce give me a quick overview of the hotel areas, and why you like a particular area. I have a choice of a number of hotels, so neighborhood is important. I thank you in advance for any help.

It might be better if you posted the hotel list for people to respond to both the hotel and the area.

Do it!!! Chances like this don't happen every day.

Areas: arrondismont 1 +2 close to everything but not very family friendly

3 + 4 more hip areas with restaurants and nite life
5 the sorbonne, so more college age people
6 St Germain, very nice, very touristy
7 nice upscale neighborhood
8 Eifel Tower and the Champs area, not my first choice
9 by all the big department stores.

I would stay in any of these areas...just my two cents.

How exciting for you, just pick something, you can get around Paris so easily.

Book now! The hotel question will work out, but many of our first choices were booked when we decided on our last minute trip three weeks ago. We're headed for Paris next Wednesday and staying in the Latin Quarter. Bon Voyage!

I've stayed in the 7th several times and like it very much - I post this because others are not giving a preference. But overall I agree with book something, anything. you'll be in Paris! On our last trip we actually stayed in the 14th near the Gare Montparnesse - I did not like the location of the hotel but a 10 minute walk took me to an area that was very pleasant.

susanna is spot on with her Arr. descriptions. You'll be fine anywhere in the 1-8 arrondisements. I've stayed in the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and liked all of them. I once stayed in the 14th (didn't have a choice on that one)and it wasn't great.

I've stayed the the 9th, about three blocks from Galerie Lafayett, and enjoyed it. Walked to the Passages and the Madeleine, stayed in the 6th and wasn't overly thrilled.and last trip stayed in the 14th, and that was my favorite, so, ya' just never know.

Oh, I won't go into why I liked the 14th unless you ask, as I seem to be in the minority and I don't know if you are even considering it, so no need to waste your time with stuff when you need to focus.

Thank you everyone! I am in the process of booking this trip right now- still looking at all of the available flight schedules, trying to tweak things so in case of late or cancelled flights we won't lose too many days. We are doing a real whirlwind trip this time-3 nights Paris and 3 nights Prague during the first week of Dec. We will get to take advantage of a little business, a little pleasure and a little Christmas shopping--sounds like a pretty good mix. We chose a small hotel in the 7th,its probably not great, but for the price of this package I'm not going to compain. After all--ITS PARIS!!!

Congrats! I like the 14th personally, close to the 6th, but the Montparnasse area is wonderfully cool. I'm thinking though of breaking away next trip and trying out the 5th, since I just rediscovered the area in September.

I love the 7th and usually stay in that neighborhood, but found a deal on TravelZoo for this past September that was too good to pass up. The ridiculously low rate and included breakfast (awesome) more than offset what I presumed to be a less than desirable hotel and location - both of which turned out to be just fine.

I've also found ridiculously low rates with Priceline and Hotwire - you really can stay in a 4* for 2* prices, all depending on your dates.

Are you prepared to share the name of your great deal, djkbooks? I'm heading to Paris next July, so would love to know!
Happy travels, Di
