I would recommend taking a boat somewhere (be it Capri, Ischia or one of the Amalfi Coast towns) and enjoying your visit to that one place, or its immediate environs. Assuming you are active and can walk around, you will get max pleasure that way.

zwho-your best bet from Naples to Sorrento is to take the hydrofoil from Naples' Molo Beverello to Sorrento-I just did this last September, and it was fantastic. You take the Alilaguna line, and the cost is about 14 Euro-it's a bit more than the regular ferries. But there is nothing like that boat ride-and seeing the cliffs of Sorrento, the marina, the Grand Hotel Excelsior spilling down the cliff-fabulous ride. I wouldn't even think of taking the commuter train-no comparison.
And never take that awful SITA bus-in Sorrento, you can jump on a ferry boat to Positano and Amalfi, 7-8 Euro one way. The only way to see the Amalfi Coast, IMO, is to arrive and depart by boat.
