It tickles me that this thing is still going.
Funny: I have a mental image of some Fodorites arranging to meet in some country, and each one says something like...."I'll be wearing a red shirt and carrying a crossword puzzle." Or...."I'll be carrying the big backpack with millions of keyrings, and carrying a crossword puzzle."
LOL. You guys are awesome!

Magic carpet is correct.
(It's a good thing someone got it. I have become addicted to this and have to try to stay away a while. Since I now have no pending unsolved clues, I'll have no GOOD excuse to keep poking in during the day, when I have to keep internet time down to a minimum.)

Yeah baby!!!! I've hated not playing these last few days because I was way out of my league with all these "real" clues. I needed explanations for all the answers! I guess I'm a straight research kind of gal. By the way, here's my funny Cuban cigar story. There was a post a while back asking if anyone "smuggled" stuff through Customs. I read it with a holier than thou attitude thinking that I had never broken the law that way...until I remembered about the Cuban cigars I snuck in from the UK for one of my good friends...of course I had to 'fess us about that!
It will take me a few minutes to think up a clue. Hang on!

Since we have been talking about books in two different posts, mine will be a literary clue. It starts with a quote:
"When I read a book I seem to read it with my eyes only, but now and then I come across a passage, perhaps only a phrase, which has a meaning for me, and it becomes a part of me."
The author of this book, published in 1915, was born in the British Embassy in Paris. He was trained as a doctor, but turned to writing. In 1908, four of his plays were running on the London stage! He served with the Red Cross in France and was a British secret agent in Geneva. In the 1930s he was the highest paid author in the world.
Find this author and tell me at what European university he studied. Begins with H, 10 letters.

The "H" of Heidelburg becomes the 7th letter of this 9-letter name for a mountainous island known for its well preserved ancient folk traditions, the wearing of traditional dress, and the use of an ancient form of the country's language.
