Help me find the best accommodation in Dordogne
We will have 9 days/nights in mid-October. At this point we are thinking about staying 6 days near Sarlat area and 3 days somewhere near Cahors. The main reason for us to visit Dordogne is prehistory. But we would also like to focus on hiking/walking, farmer markets, food, scenery, culture.
We narrowed down our choices to these accommodations,
Sarlat area: Hotel Relais de la Cote de Jor in St-Leon-Sur-Vezere
Maison Olea near La Bugue
Cahors area: Hotel Terminus (although we rather stay in a small village)
Hotel Le Vert in Mauroux (actually it is 30 km from Cahors)
If you stayed in any of these places or you heard something about any of them, please help me make a right choice.
Thanks

Cross the Olea in Le Bugue off your list immediately. It's a brand new, completely hideous building that sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise lovely landscape. I believe it's run by a British couple. Anyway, it has no charm whatsoever and is plunked atop the hill overlooking Le Bugue with no trees or shrubbery to protect it from the sun and other elements. When I was there in April, someone was erecting a sign outside advertising English afternoon tea, which I take it they serve in a little gazebo-like structure in the yard. Not a good sign.
The Relais de la Côte de Jor is in the hills above St-Léon-sur-Vézère, one of my favorite villages in the Dordogne. I've driven by it a few times and it looks OK, pretty much like any number of little hotels and B&Bs in the area - nothing special but nothing unpleasant, either.
I'm wondering how you settled on these two places, however, as neither is terribly well known, and there are so many other places that at least I would find more appealing.
The Hôtel Terminus in Cahors has one of my favorite restaurants in France. I'd stay there just for the food (it's a nice hotel, too). I don't know the Hôtel Le Vert.

StCirq, thank you for your very helpful comments. Olea is gone from my list. I still have the Terminus on my list but we prefer to stay somewhere in a quiet but charming little village.
How did I settle on these four places? Well, Fodors, Frommers, Lonely Planet, Google search. You wrote that there are so many other more appealing places. Where are they? Would you please list a few of them in Cahors and Sarlat areas. I greatly appreciate all your help.

5-53-31-04-81 (fax)
A restaurant with an excellent reputation that morphed into a B&B. The woman who owns it has a colorful reputation but her cuisine is famous.
I'm much less familiar with places to stay in the Cahors area, other than the Terminus, but I find the Guide du Routard to be pretty reliable, and here's what it recommends outside Cahors: Le Clos Grand, in Laberaudie (011-33-5-65-35-04-39; fax: 011-33-5-65-22-56-69). It is described as a charming provincial inn in a calm setting with pool and gardens with comfortable rooms. The restaurant enjoys an excellent reputation.
I just checked and it has a website: www.clos-grand.com

What a list! Thank you again, StCirq. Last night I sent e-mails to four of the places from your list and this morning we got back a wonderful long e-mail from Le Moulin Neuf in Paunat. This place seems just right for us and we think we are going to stay there.
And now I need to find out more details about a place near Cahors you mentioned. If you remember any other quiet and charming place in that area please let me know.
