Help me cut a day from Italy Itinerary!

Hi everyone!
I'll be travelling to Italy in September. Bought airline tickets through BA and decided to take advantage of the $50/night hotel deal in London on the way home. However, now we need to cut one day from Italy (has to be done due to time restraints) in order to have three nights in London (boyfriend has not been to London and so figured we needed more than two nights there). Here's my itinerary:

Fly into Milan, train to Venice
Venice 3 nights-4th night is night train to Naples
Sorrento 3 nights
Positano 3 nights
Rome 5 nights
London 3 nights

At first it seemed obvious to take a day out of Sorrento/Positano, but now I'm not sure. There are several things we would like to do in the area-Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Phlaegrean fields, Capri, Paestum. Venice, while we're spending the least amount of time there, has the least number of things we actually want to see. And, everything in Venice is close together. Right now we have three full days in Venice, would two be okay? Don't want to feel rushed there. Thanks for any advice you all can give me!

You can cut your time in Rome. Easily. 3 days would be sufficient to cover the sights, and to shop, etc.

You could easily cut a day from Sorrento or Positano. But don't take one away from Venice - there is so much more to see and do there than just a list of "must sees."

Hi kelloo,

I would also take the day away from Rome.

I wonder why you want to change hotels just to get from Sorrento to Positano?

You might want to consider staying in Naples for that time instead of Sorrento. It is more convenient to Pompeii, Paestum, etc., and is quite interesting.

Ira's given the best advice. Take one day from Rome....and think about staying in one place rather than moving from Positano to Sorrento or switching part of that stay to Naples. One of the determining factors for where you stay in the Amalfi area is: Will you be renting a car? If yes, then you could probably stay in one place. However, if you are not renting a car, then the Naples suggestion is a good one.

I too do not understand why you would want to move from Sorrento to Positano. I would stay in one place not both. This gives you 6 nights on the Amalfi. Where to cut a day depends on how many full days you have in each location. I f you were planning 5 nights in Rome but 4 days I would leave Rome as it is and take a day from Amalfi as I think 4 days is just about right for Rome. I would leave Venice as is. Might consider taking a day from both Rome and Amalfi to add another day in London.
