Please do not bombard me with B&B recommendations. I've agonizingly narrowed it down to two B&B's for my wife and I to stay in late September.

Both are in Dursodoro in a good location with a private bath, etc. Both rated really well on TripAdvisor and Vener. Can't choose. Help!

What would the veteran Italy travelers decide?

Both look good and are in anice areas. I think you would be happy with either.

Centropietre is in a busier area although I don't think you would have any problems with noise.

Casantospirito is in a quieter area but an easy walk to anywhere. The surroundings are more residential.

Personally, I like the decor better at Casantospirito. It is a bit more understated. This is the one I would choose.

Thanks for your vote! I am leaning in that direction but have read many good things about the owner of Centopietre. Very tough decision.

I would go for Ca Santo Spirito because of its quiet location and proximity to the Zattere (and the view from there over to San Giorgio Maggiore.) In fact, thanks for highlighting it, it's cheaper than my old favourite Pensione Seguso around the corner.

OP, congratulations on your research! I've stayed in Dorsoduro lots of times but hadn't heard of either of these. I hate to disagree with Tarquin who is also an old Venice hand, but personally of these 2 I'd go for the Ca' Centropietre as it's handier for lots of nice bars & restaurants, plus closer to main routes to other parts of town. In fact I might describe it as a more happening area - but don't get the idea I am young! Ca Santo Spitito is in a nice quiet street (in fact we went after a long term flat there but never got a response) but is just that bit more of a walk to most bars & restaurants including those on the Zattere (my favourite place in the world!). Admittedly we are only talking about a 10-20 minute walk, depending on the crowds.

I'm with Caroline on this. I'd select Ca Centopietre because of the proximity to bars, cafes and the bookshop nearby seems to give that area (Fond. Toletta) a bit of a buzz. We've walked through there scores of times, and like it. Close to Campo San Barnaba, where our favoutite bar (Ai Artisti) is located.

It's fun to see the kids meeting their mothers at the nearby school, too.

I'm another vote for Centopietre for its location. At the end of the day in Venice, it is surprising how not having to walk an extra five minutes keeps spirits high. In the morning, it is nice to be able to pick one's new direction and sally forth -- east, west, north, south -- and not have to first retrace one steps to get to a new starting point.

Once you are down in Zattere/Peggy Guggenheim land, your options for everything (other than the Zattere and Peggy Guggenheim) radically drop.

But if one interior space calls to you and not another, that isn't to be dismissed lightly. I agree that if you stay at Santo Spirito, upgrading to the Superior Room is worth the few extra bucks.

May I suggest you read John Berendt's City of Falling Angels before you go, especially if you end up in Santo Spirito, but even if you don't? It will add another dimension to your appreciation of Venice and those neighborhoods, since you seem to want something more than than just the tourist check list.

I am coming around to conceding that the rest of you may be right, although I do prefer eastern Dorsoduro and there is a traghetto plus Zattere vaporetto station not too far from Ca Santo Spirito. But restaurant/caffe-wise, it is true that there is not a great deal available.

As an aside on the John Berendt book, I was pleased to see flowers on Olga Rudge's tombstone the last time I was on San Michele.
