Help! Just got last minute award tickets for Nice
Due to health issues, a bit of remodeling, etc. we put off planning a vacation. But we were just given the OK to travel and spent our miles for to tickets to Nice, leaving home on Sept 12 [I swore I'd never fly on the 13th but .... Now I find that the Karen Brown type charming hotels are pretty well filled. We can spend $200 ish a night, perhaps more for something special. Want to go to Monaco first to see the Grace Kelly Exhibition which closes Sept 23. Then into the Italian Riviera a bit and back to Mougins, St Paul de Vence, St Remy and maybe Marseilles. I've never used Venere.com/ but am tempted. Has anyone had good luck with them. We often stay at Best Westerns as they let you cancel the day before but we'd like something different this trip. Thanks!

I have used venere several times and have always had good luck with them. Probably each hotel will have different cancellation policies. But the web site is good for giving you available options - most you can book online, some require waiting for a response. Have a wonderful trip - its a beautiful area!

Thanks so much to those of you who answered my questions. Am just getting down to making reservations today. It is also comforting that our friends, a couple who have travelled a lot in France, etc. say that they just reserved a Santa Margherta hotel through www.verere.com/. We'll be driving some and taking the train as well.

Look into the Hotel Alexandra, which is just around the corner from the casino in Monaco.
Or if you want to stay in Menton, which is a 10 minute drive, the Hotel Riva or the Hotel Princess et Richmond are also very nice.
In Nice, the Westminster, the Hotel Splendid and Hotel Gounod are also reasonable.
It's been close to 10 years, however, in St. Paul de Vence, the Hotel Diana was quite nice.
Hope this helps.

Try to get one of the charming rooms as Le Hameau, a small inn set in a citrus orchard just below St-Paul-de-Vence. We've stayed there a number of times and have recommended it here, with enthusiastic responses from those who stayed there.
