Help! ITALY - ITINERARY-LAST MINUTE TRIP

HELLO. Im taking all SUGGESTIONS. Im planning a last minute trip to Italy with Hubby. Below is my Itineray.

Fly into Venice

3 NIGHTS - VENICE 2 DAYS

4 NIGHTS - TUSCANY 3.5 DAYS

4 NIGHTS - ALMALFI 3.5 DAYS

3 NIGHTS - ROME 2.5 DAYS

Fly out of Rome

QUESTIONS????

VENICE-Do I spend the extra money to be in the main area or use my points and stay 15min boat ride away?

TUSCANY- Ill be staying in the chianti region - taver nell val di pesa- It seems to be very centrally located between pisa, florence, and sienna. Other areas of interest are Cinque Terre and umbria. How should I do all this? What should I leave out. Should I take a day from another area? Should I split my time between areas. Or leave it for another time?

ALMALFI- all be staying in Ravello. It will be a long travel day to get here from tuscany. Should I make an over night stay in Fiuggi and continue on the next morning. Places of importance Naples and a few suburbs outside of naples are a must (husbands family from area). Then pompei, vesuvio, salerno, almalfi coast also would be nice to see capri.
Rome-Lots to see- wont see all of it - Do I take a day here and add it somewhere esle?

We currently feel that we should have a car.
P.S. We would like to relax at some point.

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELP

Personnally, I'd cut a stop out. A few years back we did Tuscany, the AC an Rome and it was too hurried with no rest. Perhaps the AC for another trip? We drove from Siena to Positano and the drive wasn't too bad but I'd save it for another time. As for Venice, it depends on where the hotel is? Is in on another island or just in another neighborhood other than San Marco? IMO 2 days doesn't nearly do Venice justice but then again, we spend 9 nights there.

I would agree with swalter518, I think you should cut out a stop and it would be AC. You don't have enough time in Rome, it is a wonderful city, but the lines for most sites (Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Coliseum)can be long and that will obviously limit what you can see. Save the AC for another trip.Regarding where to stay in Venice we stayed on Giudeca and took the vaporetto (water bus - NOT water taxi)to St Mark's Square or where ever we needed to go.The vaporetto is just like taking a bus with great schedules. On Guideca you have best night views Venice

I would also ask just where your hotel in Venice is located. Hard to comment without that information.

With only 3.5 days in Tuscany in the Chianti area, I think you should forget about the Cinque Terre or Umbria for this trip. Plenty to do just in Tuscany.

For what you want to do, it sounds as though you should just stay in Naples and forget getting down to the Amalfi Coast so you can do your suburbs of Naples, Pompeii, etc.

With only 2.5 days in Rome, I can't imagine why you would think you should take a day from there and add it somewhere else. Even though you realize you can can't see it all in that very short time, you can only barely skim the surface in Rome in 2.5 days.

Hi C,

I'm guessing that you will be going in late Sept-early Oct.

Plan looks good to me. A bit more moving than I might do, but not bad.

>VENICE-Do I spend the extra money to be in the main area or use my points and stay 15min boat ride away?

I would stay at the Westin for free. You can take the vaporetto or water taxi to and fro.

>TUSCANY- Ill be staying in the chianti region -...

Then stay in Chianti. You have enough on your plate already.

>ALMALFI- all be staying in Ravello. Places of importance Naples and a few suburbs outside of naples are a must (husbands family from area). Then pompei, vesuvio, salerno, almalfi coast also would be nice to see capri.<

If Naples and its immediate area is a must, why are you staying in Ravello?

You only have 4 nights, focus on what is important.

>Rome-Lots to see- wont see all of it - Do I take a day here and add it somewhere esle?

I would skip Rome this trip and add a night to each of your other locations. Rome has been there for more than 2000 years. It will be there for your next visit.

Fly out of Naples.

>We currently feel that we should have a car.

Except for Tuscany, you won't need a car.

>P.S. We would like to relax at some point.

Leave Rome for another visit.

Enjoy Italy.

I agree with ira, except I'd subtract Venice and add to Rome.
Makes more sense. Rome is central for your other two stops.
