Help -- How to buy tickets? Multiple stops (NYC to Greece, return from Amsterdam). Also hydrofoil from Mykonos to Crete in June?

Hi, I'm having a hard time trying to price this itinerary for a trip in June.

I need to do the following:

Fly from NYC to Mykonos. Then fly to Crete. Then return from Amsterdam.

1. How do I get from Mykonos to Crete? It looks like the flight is 150 EUR and I need to pass through Athens. Is there a hydrofoil?

2. Right now, NYC -> ATH, AMS -> NYC is about $900 on Orbitz. Each segment (ATH -> Mykonos, Mykonos to Crete, and Crete to ATH, then ATH to Brussels) is about 75 EUR (including taxes, well Mykonos to Crete = two segments). Needless to say, this is an expensive trip. Any ideas regarding how to cut costs? Any ideas regarding which travel agent I can contact with an itinerary like this? Right now it looks to me like the tickets will cost $1300 to $1400.

3. Because of time constraints, there're just a few flights that will suit my schedule it seems (I must leave NYC late evening and arrive in Mykonos late evening the next day, etc.). I've thought about flying into London and taking Easyjet from Luton to Athens (flight leaves in the afternoon), etc. Most low-cost airlines fly into Athens early morning, so I won't be able to make these flights with a trans-Atlantic flight that departs late.

4. In your view, how much would you pay for this itinerary?

All ideas are welcome! Thanks!

Hi 111,

On Orbitz (and other sites) click on the multi city button.

You should get a better price for an open-jaw than for individual legs.

Hi ira, Orbitz can't price an open jaw to Mykonos. In fact, it can't even price NYC -> ATH, ATH -> AMS, AMS -> NYC. Expedia probably can, but I don't think that it's competitive with what I can price on my own.

A travel agent may be able to price NYC -> JMK (Mykonos), etc.

But otherwise it seems like the best I can do myself is to price NYC -> ATH and AMS -> NYC and do everything separately.

Thanks for the thought.

Hi 111

>Orbitz ...can't even price NYC -> ATH, ATH -> AMS, AMS -> NYC. <

That's really wierd.

I went to http://airtravelcenter.com/onetrav.htm

I got NYC/ATH (via London), ATH/AMS (via London), AMS/NYC (via London)for $1088, leaving June 7 and returning June 21 on BA.

Alternatively, www.easyjet.com will fly you LGW/ATH for as little as 42GBP, and from LGW to AMS for as little as 12GBP.

I found NYC/LHR or LGW - AMS/NYC for the same dates for $670.

Hope this helps.

Great, thanks. About the same as what I found too, I think. Amazing how when you add up the little pieces (like the domestic flights in Greece), the price goes up to $1300/$1400.

For example, the itinerary you priced on BA doesn't include the domestic flights. It's pretty comparable to say NYC -> ATH, AMS -> NYC ($900) + low cost carrier from ATH -> BRU (Virgin Express) is one. That part is about $1000, as you priced.

Still hoping to do this for cheaper.
