Help!Depart in 6 days?Which jacket?
We are spending the month of Oct. in Austria, starting in Vienna, then the final 2 and half weeks in the Salzburg and Innsbruck area. A puffy down ski type jacket or fleece lined jacket which can worn under another jacket. Been looking at weather, but? Thanks, Lisa

The puffy jacket would be worn alone. The fleece lined jacket worn alone weather permitting, or another lined middle weight jacket worn over the fleece if needed. Wish I had a leather jacket! We are not going to be hiking, skiing nor goint to fancy concerts.L.

My spouse, currently in Budapest and heading to Vienna for the weekend, has commented on the 26 degree weather in BP this last week -- 26 degrees is about 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Puffy jackets? -- not yet! (and October is only 1 week away).
Puffy anything in chic Vienna? What will you wear at night?

Puffy jacket - absolutely not - horrible choice! I can't really picture the other one because all you describe is the lining.
I'm leaving tomorrow for France. In addition to a thigh-length waterproof jacket with hood that has deep pockets I'm bringing a very swank and tight fleece black jacket with zipper and scalloped edges that will keep me warm and is lightweight and has great pockets - always one of my trip requirements. Seems to me you might look into one and the same for your trip.

Lisa, always go for layers that way you are prepared for all weather types - cool, rain, snow. I'm guessing that the two jackets you describe are a Columbia type combo - fleece liner + shell. And the other is the Michelan man type puffy jacket.
Go for layers. You sound like the casual type ("no fancy conerts" so go practical.
