In January I stayed at the Meininger Hotel Hauptbahnhof Berlin, it is literally outside the central railway station, you cannot miss it - turn right when you leave from the main entrance, and there it is at the end of the taxi ramp. New hotel, really clean, nice room, and cheap - I paid 160 euro for five nights for a twin room. It is quite a large hotel, with a mixture of hostel accommodation and hotel rooms, so there is a real mix of people from backpackers up to the retired set. Breakfast was about 5.50 euro each (I didn't try it), there is a bar in the lobby, and a kitchen if you wish to use it. I found it a little noisy at times, but I was still able to sleep at night. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Brandenburg Gate. For me it was ideal - I needed something close to the station also, and something cheap. But I also got a decent, clean and nice room - it was just the noise that put me off, but I would stay there again. Hope this helps.

There is an Ibis adjacent to the station but many more options a quick S or Ubahn ride away.

You can use bookings.de to search by area. We stay in Mitte and walk to the main station or use the excellent Berlin transport system.
