WOuld anyone know how Le Madison and Le Relais St. Germain compare with each other? It would be a double BLVD facing room ( madison) vs. a twin bedded room with a small balcony ( relais)

Le Madison is nice, but I consider Relais St. Germain a considerably more "upscale" and atmospheric hotel. Relais is also less than half the number of rooms as Le Madison -- something like 24 or so total. Le Madison has over 50.

Thank you all again for your time and comments. I FINALLY decided to go with a twin bedded room with a balcony at the relais saint Germain. I am very satisfied with my desicion Plus we already have a reservation at Le Comptoir during our visit!

Congratulations. Last year I wanted to do my birthday on July 17 at Le Comptoir, so I called in March -- no way. Tried several times and never could get a reservation. They always asked if I was a guest of the hotel. I was about to book a room for a night just so I could eat there!

I'm curious about that balcony though. I'm not aware of any balconies, other than those little fake ones about 6 inches deep.

We had lunch 1 1/2 weeks ago at Le Comptoir after just walking up and getting a table. I also tried getting reservations in the past but couldn't. Here's one responce I received from my trip report:

Hi -- I was also in Paris the week of Feb 18 and enjoyed the wonderful weather too. Wanted to make a point of clarification on Le Comptoir. We too had thought that they only took reservations for the Hotel guests, but decided to drop by and see what we could get. We went by one day around 11:30 am and were told they take NO reservations and serve continously from 12 noon through 11 pm. We ended up having delicious lunches there twice. We arrived 12ish and got seated right away. By 12:30 it was full inside and outside. However they seemed to turn tables over every 60 - 90 minutes or so and I never saw people waiting in line. Also grabbed a crepe one day at the creperie next door that was the best crepe ever.


If you want to dine here, just drop by and you'll get a table if you wait a bit, although we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes. The creperie next door which they also own, is take away only.

Me again... would you say that the double superior room at the Le Regent is comprable to a twin bedded room at Relais saint germain? Which is in a better area? Thanks again!!! Or what about the highest end room at the Hotel du Buci. We have a small terrace with table and chairs at the relais saint germain which sounds nice.. its inside facing the room tops, so Im not sure if that is a nice view or not...

I've stayed at Le Regent several times and like the superior rooms very much, but they are no comparison to the rooms at Relais St. Germain (which of course is also reflected in the price difference).
The two are only about two blocks apart but on opposite sides of Blvd. St. Germaine. I don't think I could say either one is in a better location than the other.

Thank you neopatrick... I am just wondering if a twinbedded room at the relais is as nice as a higher end room superior at the regent.. So do you think the relais is a better bet than going to the highest end of a three star? De fleurie, hote du buci, le regent etc... we are comfortable going up to 300e - thanks again

I can only speak of those I know. I LOVE Le Regent, but again Relais St. Germanin is WAY above it in overall ambiance and quality of rooms. A twin bedded room at Relais St. Germain is not "as nice" as a superior room at Le Regent -- it is a whole lot nicer.

got it! we probably should stay where we are then I reserved our room at the relais last month.. But of course am second guessing myself. there are not many reviews on it and it's listed pretty low on trip advisor... Thanks again Neopatrick!

Well you have to remember that there are so many Paris hotels that it's easy for good/great hotels to be kind of low if they don't have that many reviews.

Cpine- We have booked at Relais also from May 27 to June 2. When is your trip to Paris?

We have spoken several times to the desk and they are more friendly and helpful than the staff at Madison which we had previously booked.

we are going at the beginning of Sept. I just picked up the 2007 France Frommers and to my delight, Relais Saint Germain is listed as a top choice under hotels in the Saint Germain area. That settled my nerves and has made me confident in my desicion. p.s. I too did not have the best e-mail experience with Le Madison.. I dropped them off my list a while ago.. The reviews were also so mixed.

I've been to all of them, and of all, I like the Esprit Saint Germaine the best, both for the location (closer to what we like than the d'aubusson), and also like the rooms, not large, but extremely nice and clean. The staff couldn't be nicer/more helpful, and the downstairs bar is a nice way to wind down after a hectic day. Just my opinion, If less people go, it works out better for me, as I have an easier time getting a reservation...

Honestly, you don't need the Frommer's Guide to tell you that you've made the right choice if Patrick has already told you its a good choice. He would not steer you wrong.

STOP. looking. at. hotels. MOVE ON to the other stuff.

I would like to add though, that I think it's quite interesting how people speak (or write in this case) to someone they don't even know... I know you are only trying to be helpful Amsou, but I found you're response a little strange & awkward. This is a chat area for those seeking help and that is what I was doing.

I agree that this is what these threads are all about-for you to want the best room and best locale so I couild not understand the impatience of the poster who told you to move on. I guess my feeling is that they didn't have to keep reading this thread if it bothered them so much. Just my opinion, for what its worth.
