Help-Amalfi Coast for one day?
We're leaving for Rome 9/4 for 9 days (not including the day we leave). We were already planning on taking a day trip to Naples & Pompeii on a Thursday, and now we're wondering if we should go down on Wednesday and spend a day somewhere on the Amalfi coast too (partly because of all of your recommendations on one of my previous posts). The problem is that I know nothing about that area.
Could you please tell me where the best places to go on the coast are, how to get there (from Naples?), what there is to do, where to stay etc?
Is it going to be hard to get a hotel this late? Would we be able to find one when we get there?
We do only want to go for one day (if we go at all). Will that be worth it-or should we save the coast for another trip?

My initial thought is that you should save the AC for another trip...
But from Naples, maybe the thing to do would be to take the hydrofoil to Capri and stay overnight there. The island is very beautiful, and much of the charm of it is in the evening when all the day-trippers are gone. One night and most of a full day would be enough to enjoy the panoramic views, and most of the island's sights.
For the rest of the AC, taking the train there is time consuming and you wouldn't really be able to see everything with any sense of quality. My first trip there was a 3 day leg of a longer trip, and there was much we didn't get to do.
Looking forward to going back though!

Belay that.
Take the train to Naples on Wednesday.
Take the Metro from the train station to the Archaeological Museum.
Walk back to the train station and enjoy Naples.
Take the Circumvesuviana to Sorrento and the SITA bus to Praiano. Stay overnight.
Take the Orange or the SITA bus to Positano. Get off at the top of the town and walk down to the ferry.
Take the ferry to Sorrento.
Take the CV train to Pompeii Scavi and see the ruins.
Go back to Rome via Naples.
