Heathrow to Waterloo - How Long?
I will be arriving at Heathrow at 6:30 on a Friday morning and then taking the Eurostar to Paris. How much time should I allow to clear customs and immigration at LHR and take a taxi or car service to Waterloo Station?

Bill - suggest you allow 2 hours to get you through customs and immigration and 1 hour 30 minutes for the car journey from Heathrow to Waterloo. Unfortunately your journey into London is at peak time so your first (possibly only) sight of London will be traffic jams on the A40

Hi.

Your arrival time and customs time may vary depending on your flight, the customs agent you get and, perhaps, your "profile". But if you don't have too much luggage, you may want to consider the Tube for transport to Waterloo. For an adult it will cost about $5.50; you have to make only one train change and it will take about an hour and ten minutes. A cab or auto service may cost you about $50.00 or more.

Check it out at thetube.com.

You're welcome.

Bill,

I strongly suggest that you fly onwards to Paris from Heathrow. Cost will probably be equivalent, perhaps cheaper especially if you were to take a cab/car service to Waterloo.

The route is served by BMI, Air France and British Airways.

www.flybmi.com
www.airfrance.co m
www.britishairways.com

BMI is advertising a one way fare of GHP 34 on its website!

Andre

If you have not already bought train tickets go by plane from Heathrow to CDG. It's a lot less hectic then getting into London at rush hour in the a.m. and probably a lot cheaper. A car service will be 35 pounds plus tip (we always use one .. www.london-transfers.com), when you factor that in with the Eurostar ticket you'd be much better off just flying. Since you are at the a/p anyway, why go into London to catch a train? There are flights all day long to Paris & they are cheap. I would not take a taxi cab because the meter runs and traffic can be very heavy so it would be very costly (car service is flat fee). With luggage I would not even think about the Tube, it's rush hour after all. Just fly, it's a lot less complex.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I realize it's easier to fly from LHR to CDG than to go into London on a weekday morning to catch a train at Waterloo Station. The problem is that after spending 4 nights in Paris, I am returning to London for 3 nights. I figured it would be easier to take the train back (and avoid having to get from Paris to CDG and then LHR to London). Thanks again.

Bill,

I see your point, but you might very well be able to get a cheap one-way flight to Paris and a good deal on the Eurostar on the way back to London (chances are you will need to purchase a discounted return and throw out the unused reservation for the latter).

For Eurostar reservations on journeys originating in France, go to
www.sncf.com

Andre
