Heathrow Overnight

I am going to be landing in Heathrow at 6PM and leaving the following morning at 11AM. Is there a town near by to stay overnight.

I'd rather not spend the night at a hotel at the airport if I can help it. And I think London is too far. I'm hoping there is some place that is a short cab ride (less then 1/2 hour), that at least at night there is a pub or something for a drink

Any suggestions?
Dear Inor: Actually there are several hotels close by. I suggest you contact your airline and ask for their recommendation. Heathrow is practically a city in itself and has more than enough to keep you busy overnight. Bon voyage! Joan

Try the town of Windsor. It's about a 20 min. cab ride. The Van Sittart pub is good.

You can actually go into London if you like. There is the shuttle you can take to Paddington Station and will get you there in 15 minutes. It costs I believe $10. From Paddington, you can take a bus or taxi to any hotel.

Is Windsor a really charming town to stay in if I won't be able to see the castle since I'll only be there at night?

What about Eton is that charming?

Is there night life in either?
Windsor is nice for shopping, but I think most places will be closed. There are a couple of nice pubs, but I don't think there's all that much else at night. It's kind of out of the way just for a hotel, I expect it's at least 20 *pounds* for a cab. Maybe more.

The Paddington train is definitely 10 pounds, not 10 dollars.

There are lots of hotels around the airport. You're probably right in staying there so you could go into London after you drop your stuff off. There's plenty to do at night and then you can be right near the airport so you don't have to worry about making a connection the next morning. Even though it's more money than the Airbus the Paddington train would be handy because of how fast it is to get you there. (15 min vs. 1 hour)

6PM might be a good time to try one of the airport hotel booking services. By that time they probably have a hotel or too that's under booked an may have dropped rates. The places usually take about 5 pounds, but usually get more than that in a rate reduction. Unless you've already gone through one of the internet sites that do the same thing. They can be quite good.
