Has anyone used cheap-car-rentals.com in Italy?

Hi
We're going to Italy in July and need a van to hold at least 7 people. I've tried autoeurope and kemwel (couldn't get novarentacar today). The price for the 10 days we need is over $1,500 for the two above and $1,000 at a site called http:/cheap-car-rental.com. Has anyone used them? If not, any ideas for getting a better rate than $1,500 for a van to hold 7?

Try www.carjet.co.uk
I am renting a car from them in Portugal and the price was fantastic.
I am not saying they will be less expensive then your site, but ten minutes of your time might net you a better price.
I have always found Italy to be particularly expensive. Remember airport rentals add about 20% extra on to the price.
Good luck.

Hi C,

The devil is in the details - usually the insurance charges.

I checked your site for a comparison with AutoEurope. I think when you compare the same insurance coverage, AE is cheaper.

I don't know your specific situation -- But you will almost always save a LOT of money renting 2 cars instead of one large van. And the poor folks relegated to the last row of seats will REALLY wish you had rented two cars.

And having two vehicles means all seven of you don't have to be joined at the hip 24/7. If 2 or 3 want to take it easy one day or maybe just do some shopping, they can. But w/ just one vehicle every person has to be on the same wave length -- and the same rest stop schedule . . . .

So you might consider getting two cars.

This past August I rented through Rent.it and thrifty.it, and even with adding all the extra insurance coverage they were significantly cheaper than autoeurope. This was for an automatic though.

Re Thrifty.it (aka Italy by Car), however, beware: I rented a car in Palermo last Oct and was rather unpleasantly surprised by an extra $100+ charge for insurance coverage that was explicitly included in the stated rate (this was in addition to extra coverage that I purchased, and was added after I returned the car during the "final audit"). Thrifty US has been slow to resolve the matter (ie "investigation ongoing"). Cheat so egregious that credit card company actually sided w/ me -- cust service called me, said they couldn't do anything about it, but gave me a credit for the $$ (now when is the last time *that* happened?). Lessons: if possible, deal w/ a car rental company w/ a good reputation and ability to help you when you are back in US, save *all* your paperwork until charges clear and be nice to those customer service people -- sometimes they can really make your day!
