Has anyone taken the train from Avignon to Barcelona?

Hello everyone: Have gotten all my hotels from this forum. Leaving in 5 days solo. Going to Paris , then to Avignon (was there last summer), then hoping to get into Spain via Barcelona? want to get to Sevilla & hope to fly from Sevilla to London. I am wondering if anyone has taken the train from Avignon to Spain. Have cked rer and the rail europe sites but to me very confusing. I guess I could wait until I get there but I dont have a hotel beyond Avignon so need help on the logistics or whom to call. Thanks! Johanna

You can find schedules at www.bahn.de (German Rail). Your best bet seems to be to leave from Avignon Centre at 15:25 (Monday through Friday), change at Beziers, and arrive in Barcelona at 21:48. The Beziers to Barcelona leg requires a reservation, but you can get that in Paris or Avignon.

Thanks Jahoulih: Your information is a great helo and a good start. I have been on that web site and all the Spanish train sites and eurail sites; I think I have been having difficulty reading it. I am really trying to get to Sevilla without going back to Paris. I guess I could spend the night in Barcelona and fly out the next day or if there is a train is there a specific or hispeed. Thanks so much. I greatly appreciate your help!!!!Johanna

There are two day trains and one night train each day from Barcelona to Seville. For times and prices, see

Thanks jahoulih. I must be so dense. I have been on line for hours at renfe and they answered a question and said to go to cerbere? and then barcelona and then back to Madrid and on the Seville. Is that the train you are suggesting? If I can find a hotel in Barcelona near the train station, I could go to the airport and fly for 37 Euros. I was trying not to make the trip so stressful. I did go to the german rail site but couldnt get my itinerary. I think I will go pack and do as you suggest and buy the ticket when I get there on Monday. Another question please. The TVG train station is some distance from the Avignon center and the hotel told me there are no cabs...can I take a train from Paris to the Avignon Centre station and walk & drag my luggage? Do you know any shuttle services in Avignon? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, I will look up your itinerary .If I have to thru Madrid , it might be easier to go back to Paris? I am traveling alone and I know my luggage will be a problem.
I am so greatful for your input. Is Beziers in France? Thanks again!

Dear Jahoulih: Thank you! Thank you! With your help, I finally found the schedule. My only question is that the train from Beziers to Barcelona Sants arrives at 21:48 and the train to
Sevilla departs at 22:00. Will I have time to get to that train(hotel)? If I have a paid reservation will the train wait? If I miss the train, I would have to wait until 8 am,safe for a wman alone all-night at the train station? Do u think it would be better to purchase tickets in Paris? Senior card would save me 25% but need photo id. Dont know how to do that over internet. Also, since less than 7 days, I guess I would still have to go to station to pick up tickets. Do I go to a specific station for these? Thanks again. Jihanna

I'd say you should buy your tickets when you get to Paris - any of the major train stations will do. You'd probably be able to catch the 22:00 train, but personally I wouldn't risk it. It definitely won't wait for you! I'd suggest staying in Barcelona for the night (definitely NOT at the train station), spending a day (at least) there, and then taking the night train or the day train, whichever you prefer, to Seville.

Beziers is in France, by the way, and there is a shuttle between Avignon TGV and Avignon Centre. (I find it hard to believe that there aren't any cabs.)

Bon voyage!

Thank you jahoulih: After 3 emails the hotel did email me that there are taxis from the tgv to town. ON SNCF, everytime I put the dates and times that you gave me it comes up, there are no seats on 6/11 in 1st or 2nd,(nonsmoking) Is that possible? Renfe sent me an email to go from avignon to cerbere to barcelona sants but there is only a 10 min difference in arriving to cerbere and changing to barcelona train which would have allowed me to make the night train . I have tried to call the # listed 011 090882 353 535 listed on the web site and the # they emailed me:33 892 35 35 35 and I am told not a working #. If you have any further suggestions please email me at [email protected]. I may have to change some hotel reservations if there are no seats on the trains. Thanks for all of your help.

The SNCF website has some glitches, particularly when it comes to anything outside of France; I think it's a safe bet that there will be seats available for you to reserve once you get to Paris.
