Has anyone taken a train from Frankfurt to Kassel in Germany?
I will arrive in Frankfurt in the mid morning and need to go on to the city of Kassel. I am assuming that the train is the most convenient way to get there. Has anyone made this trip?
I note two train stations in Kassel. One is in the city and one is at the airport??? My hotel, La Strada, is rather off the beaten path, or so I've been told, so not sure which train station would be the closest.
Suggestions? Thanks!
Carol

Frankfurt Hbf (Hauptbahnhof, main city-center station) - Kassel Hbf two hours runs at least hourly. Kassel Wilhelsmhohe is another main Kassel station (2.5 mi from Hbf) the train stops at a few minutes before the city-center Hbf. If landing at the airport buy a ticket from the airport to Kassel, then take the train from airport to Frankfurt Hbf and then direct to Kassel. If you're traveling by yourself, tickets bought in the US through RailEurope are currently cheaper than walk-up fares bought in Frankfurt; if traveling with a companion then it's cheaper to buy in Germany as second person gets half off, but won't through RailEurope, which gives no discount for extra persons. If doing any other rail trips in Germany then a German Railpass may be your best bet - as low as $135 for four days of unlimited travel in a one-month period. (Details: call Budget Europe 800-441-9413, the folks i've dealth with for years and highly recommend!

Thanks PalQ. Looks like I will be stopping at Wilhelmshohe station as it will be slightly closer to my hotel, and perhaps easier to reach.
I will be traveling there alone, meeting up w/husband, but I hesitate to buy a ticket ahead of time as I am not positive about the schedule. What if I don't manage to get on the train that I've booked ahead of time?
Thanks again.

buying a point-point ticket does not require a reservation if bought in the US - the reservation is a separate issue and i doubt if you need one for most trains, especially in first class. Unless the German Pass makes sense to you i'd just buy the ticket upon arrival at Frankfurt Airport - buy a round trip if returning to the airport.
