Has anyone driven from Kotor Bay, Montenegro to Mostar, Bosnia?

I am wanting to drive from Kotor Bay, Montenegro to Mostar, Bosnia. I have mapped the route (not wanting to drive through Dubrovnik unless necessary, we start our trip there), but can't tell if the roads are good ones. Has anyone driven this route? Thanks!

I've only driven from Mostar to Dubrovnik, probably on the most common route (Mostar to Metkovic, then south down the coastal road to Dubrovnik; obviously you could do that in reverse). I'm not sure why you'd want to avoid the scenic route along the coast between Dubrovnik and Metkovic? (You're not going back to Dubrovnik after Mostar right?) The backtrack from Kotor to Dubrovnik doesn't look to be that long.

Stay on the coastal road as much as possible, if you get into the mountains you will find them serpentine and make very slow progress (quality will be good, just very wiggly).

Thanks for your help. This is what I'm confused about and can't seem to find anyone who has done this drive who has posted on the internet. I'm curious if it is easier to go back through Dubrovnik or take "shorter" route which may turn out to be longer!

I am not sure which route you are saying you have mapped. If you are talking about driving from Kotor up to meet the route that goes from Trebinje to Stolac to the main route to Mostar, we have driven on most of this route. It is a lovely drive with little traffic. The main problem is that you should be VERY careful not to get off the road in the countryside. There are still many unexploded land mines. See my 2010 TR

I would recommend the Trebinje Road to Mostar. Easy route free of traffic and the curves of the coastal road. Trebinje is a nice small town with several good hotels (Hotel Leotar) and good restaurants in the town square. It is within the Serbian canton.
There is also the Tvrdros Monastery a few miles outside of Trebinje on the left going north that offers excellent wine.
