Has anyone been to Vinci?
We will be in Florence Dec. 19-27. I have read that there is a wonderful museum in Vinci w/ Leonardo da Vinci's drawings etc. I guess he was born there. I can't find any info on the museum or how to get there from Florence.

I've never been there. I just now did a quick, superficial www.Google.com search and found quite a bit of info re the museums in the town. If you try and still can't find anything, post again, and then I--or someone reading this thread--will post a few links.

This is the url for the museum. Unfortunately, it's all in Italian. I hope you can get the information you want, though.

Janice,
Run, don't walk, to this museum. I put it on the itinerary for our 1996 trip to Florence for my husband and his father and we were all enthralled by the museum.
If you go, you will see lots of exhibits and drawings capturing da Vinci's inventions and imaginations. The museum has a great sense of whimsy and is a terrific place for all ages. Also, it has a terrific gift shop (according to my mother-in-law).
I don't think it took us more than an hour to get there from San Casciano (16km South of Florence) but am sure that you could confirm mileage on Mappy, etc.
Have a joyous time in Florence.
Maureen

I agree with Maureen - this museum is great fun, with lots of scaled down versions of Leonardo's inventions, and all manner of drawings and imaginings. It's housed in a lovely building, and as you walk round the museum you get some great views over the rooftops of Vinci to the hills beyond.

We had a car so I can't help you with public transport. Perhaps your hotel could help or you could post another thread addressing transport only. There seem to be a lot of people on this board who know Italy and its public transportation. You might consider hiring a driver and combining the museum visit with something else in the area. Good luck.
