Has anyone been to the Monaco Grand Prix?
My parents and I are going to the race in May -- a dream come true for Dad! We are trying to decide whether to train into Monaco or take the rental car in. We are staying in Tourrettes sur Loup and would either drive to Nice and take the train or drive directly to Monaco.

Also, if anyone has been, what is the appropriate thing to wear? I am mid-30s and Mom looks it -- we just don't know how dressy is appropriate.

As always, thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Lisa,

I went last year and stayed in Cannes. Took the train to Monaco on practice days and race day. The train is convenient but they get extremely crowded on race day. There are tons of German and British F-1 fans on the train.

From what I have heard driving is not recommended, the roads are jammed and I
didn't see any places to park near the course.

As far as dressing is concerned, the main thing to keep in mind is wear something that is cool as it is blazing hot in the Grandstands, there is no shade and you will be sitting there more
than 2 hours. The fans are there to watch race not what you wear.

You will totally enjoy the experience, the sounds of the cars echoing through streets and the ambiance of Monaco make it a F-1 event like no other.

Regards,
Fred

Two years ago we drove from St. Jean du Cap to Monaco right after the race was over. It was bumper to bumper traffic and people everywhere. Hard to find parking and people's nerves were frazzled from all the excitement. I would train if I went again. Remember there is a two lane road along the coast and the other two roads are not much if any wider.

It was overcast and warm when we were there. I had on capris, sandals, white silk shirt with a sweater, seemed to fit in ok. I don't think fashion matters that much unless you are going into the casinos or fine rest. Tourists are from all over the world on the pathways so you will see everything, from those horrible leggings on people who shouldn't wear them to shorts, the usual. We drove on to Rochbrun (sp?) for dinner so I can only assume people dressed for dinner.
