HAS ANYONE BEEN TO MARLOW?
Hi-ho, world travelers. Has anyone been to a town in England called, Marlow? If so, tell me a bit about it, please. Anything you can tell me is more than I already know, is it a big town or small, quaint or tacky, worth visiting or not, is there anything of historic value there, etc.? Thanks in advance for your information.

Hi-Ho!!
Marlow is a small town on the river Thames, west of London, not far by train. It is a very pretty small town (quaint, not tacky) with historic buildings and is beautifully situated on the river. I would not think though that there would be much for a tourist to do there except for shopping, walking and picnicing by the river. It is in the county of Buckinghamshire.
What has made you want to visit Marlow? I would think Windsor would be a better choice as it is also a small quaint town but has more to see ie castle, museum, Eton nearby.
Angela

While I have not been to Marlow it sounds great! Sometimes it is very nice to get away from the tourist beat and visit a town/city that is not a major tourist attraction. We do this routinely when in the UK (yes, we have visited the major attractions so we have the luxury of getting away from tourist places now). We do not think it a waste of time, in fact it can be the best part of your trip with the right attitude.

A friend and I stayed in Marlow on the first night of a holiday in Britain. We picked it because it seemed like a good choice for that first jet-lagged, not-used-to-driving-on-the-left day. It's low-key, pretty, not tacky, and not overly far from Heathrow. As Angela said, there's not much specific there to see, but we liked it quite a bit. It has some nice old buildings and the walking along the Thames was a perfect way to stay outside as a jet-lag cure. I know it wouldn't make a must-see list, but I actually wouldn't mind going back and spending more time in the area.
